I have the Logitech V20 USB speakers. If I use them with my G50VT-X1 after I unplug them the device reverts to the Realtek HD audio as it should but no sound comes through the speakers. It looks ok in all dialogues, but the only thing that gets the on board sound back is to uninstall and reinstall the realtek drivers.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Is there any application that plays audio open when you disconnect them? That sometimes trips the computer up.

I've had similar problems with the Logitech z cinema speakers, although never to the extent of having to reinstall drivers. I've noticed that I have to restart windows a lot to get sound to play if I don't stop all the applications that are playing sound.

Does sound still play through the Logitech speakers if you plug back in?

Maybe try to see if you can find an older version of the realtek driver. That would at least tell you if it is a driver issue or something else.

for me, i have to close whatever programs using the speakers that were running at the time and re-open them in order to get sound from the new playback device.

e.g. when running winamp, i must close it and re-open winamp if i want to go from the V20s to headphones.

let me know if that works or not.

@gtbuzz: The logitech speakers will work if plugged back in, but the system audio remains mute.

@patrick and ktang: I was aware of that from my previous computer, but this happens when nothing is open, e.g. After unplugging the USB speakers if I click the vista volume control where it gives the ding to indicate volume level, the visual indicator of level is there, but there is no audio.

I'll see if I can figure out which realtek driver I had on my P-6831FX, cos I had no problems with it and report back.

I have the same thing with my G1S after using HDMI.

After unplugging, I need to right click the white speaker Icon next to the clock and select playback devices, and then click SPEAKERS and then SET AS DEFAULT at the bottom. I may have also had to reboot, I can't remember ...

My problem's different. My girlfriend's computer does what you mention, but with mine the device reverts to default and everything, there's just no sound unless I reinstall the driver.
