Last night I was on my laptop, with the AC power connected, battery removed, Asus UL80VT when the power went out. I just left it as is until the power returned after 5 minutes and went back to it.

The lights turn on but no display, can hear the fan as well as the hdd, video card shot? I just had the motherboard replaced 5 months ago by Asus, had additional 90 days of warranty. As of now, my warranty is expired and what do you guys suggest?

I called one laptop shop here in Scarborough and he qouted me $150 for a new video card, but it might work it might not.

You can easily tell if it's the video card by plugging it into an external LCD. Video = LCD/inverter problem, No Video = probably card related.

Most of the Asus video cards are either soldered onto the board or are custom chips that may/not be possible for non-Asus authorized repair centers to order. Motherboard replacement is a common solution to this issue.

if it has a integrated card as well, u can take out the dedicated one and try turning it on. i think asus uses the mxm module? or at least mine does, its very easy to remove

If you get no video signal on an external monitor, try booting with only one stick of RAM at a time, since bad RAM can cause exactly this behavior.

If RAM is bad usually you will only get status LEDs and maybe a beep code.
