I have a z96j and for some reason there is no audio when I play WMV files in WMP. I thought there might be a problem with the original sound drivers and WMP11 beta, so I went to the RealTek site to download the updated drivers. Which model is in the z96j?

The audio seems to be fine in Windows, ITunes and Winamp, just not WMV files.

its possible that the wmv files are corrupted, or windows media player beta is having a difficult time matching the wmv to the right codec

i personally have used wmp 11 beta, and found it stunningly usefull and pleasing, but by no means finished.

Use Media Player Classic! And then download a k-lite codec pack. It's more user friendly and doesn't have a bunch of junk.

It seems the solution to this problem is not a codec..but to ditch WMV.(I dont like it at all).

The only reason I recommended K-lite is because it comes with ffdshow and is highly recommened with the usage of MPC (from what I've read). But still, get MPC!

At least try MPC first and if that doesn't fix anything then we can start talking about another possible way to fix your problem.

I concur with using Media Player Classic with K-Lite Mega Codec pack. Together play just about every type of file, except Real media ones. Those require Real Alternative, or Real Player itself.

Get K-Lite codec, MPC and RA at

Unfortunately too many content providers use WMV, so we don't have much of a choice I guess. And WMV ain't all bad, is it? :)
