As we see the Santa Rosa equipped ASUS' laptops rolling in, does anyone know of a place to get a decent deal on the last generation?
-
-
Expect rebates, ASUS usually issues them when they want older generation units to be sold before the new chipset rolls out.
-
what can the expected prices be? and can we still get them configured with MCE or XP instead of vista?

Asustek and its distributors wholesale their products to franchised retailers. And Asutek has no business or should i say should not and would not dictate what franchised dealers like MileStone or other what to discount their inventory for.
The only way i see Asutek offering any direct-to-dealer rebates is if they had excessive inventory of a certain model and they would reduce the wholesale cost to dealers. I cant see Asus having huge amts of G1's in their warehouse
LuComputers has already discounted the G1 to $1880.00cdn from its norm of $2199.00 in anticipation of the arrival of the G1s
This has got to be very close to cost given ive calculated the markup in the 18point avg. -

The short answer is yes. =/

well rebates has always been a term used between manufacturer and dealer.
And rebates is something rarely used in Canada. Note the over use of the rebate term in USA only.
Call up Milestone tomorrow and ask them or any other cdn retailer -
So, no price drops for old technology then.....I guess.

whoa, the resellers are the ones trying to get rid of the systems, not Asus. Certain resellers who I have been criticised for "free advertising" for have put up rebates on the old systems because they are making stock room for the SR systems.

Asus has been gradually discounting Napa notebooks to distributors during the past few months. Even the G1 has dropped in price within the past few weeks.

my best friend is a lawyer and he's educated me over the years on how rebates in canada has always been frowned upon especially for the conservative canadian attitude.
The Auto manufacturers (Ford, GM, Chrysler) still use huge rebate programs in the US to sell their cars but not so here in Canada.
In fact, BestBuy canada is dropping any signs of rebates and will be just discounting and calling them 'sales' while best buy in USA will most likely still continue to use the 'rebate' term

But in the beginning the real issue which was "manufacturer to dealer rebate"... was that the manufacturer would send the dealer say example $200 for every product sold. Thus they would transfer this savings to the customer.
But some brainy big box retailer said hey, why dont we charge the customer the orig price anyways and get the customer to get the $200 savings from the manufacturer.
This way the retailer/dealer/reseller keeps his $200.00 cash flow overhead and the onus is on the customer to get it from the manufacturer.
This was great for the reseller cause imagine if a big box company like Best Buy sold 5000 units with retaining $200 each per unit. -

Sometimes I hate free market capitalism. But I can't think of anything better...
-
It depends on how badly they want to get rid of it.
Back to School is generally a good time to buy. Most companies generally offer rebates during that period as a motivator to buy.
ASUS sometimes offers end-user rebates, but generally they provide the retailers the rebates.
The last batch of W3Js with T2500s about a month or so ago had a rather insane liquidation pricing... -
Hopefully there will be a price drop in the next few weeks. I want to get the A8JS at around $1500CAD.
Non-Refreshed ASUS' getting a price dip?
