do asus use the same motherboards for all their notebooks?, or is each model different? I'm talking about notebooks that have the same chipset such as the 945gm.....it would make sense that for cutting-cost, they should be the same....

if they are the same, is it possible to add a dedicated video card to a motherboard that has integrated graphics..? i'm not sure how this works so forgive me if my question sounds naive.... :)

To me it looks like you want to upgrade your integrated graphics to something dedicated. Unfortunately upgrading graphic cards is not possible. There are exceptions to this rule, Dell and boutique laptops.

Here's an alternative, the Asus XG Station, which will allow you to connect an external Video card to your laptop via ExpressSlot Card.

Even those exceptions you mentioned are 100% impossible to add a dedicated card when there is only an integrated card originally.

As to the OP, please read the sticky and you'll get ur answer right at the top of the page:

Dell offers options to upgrade when your customizing the laptop before purchase. But yes technically your right, you can't upgrade your video card once you have integrated.
