I love my new computer but I cannot stand how piss poor the sound is. I ordered a Acer for my sister and it is the same way. The volume plain sucks on these notebooks. Is there any kind of firmware hack or driver hack that can boost the output volume? I'm a computer tech and have tried everything I can think of. Every dell laptop I have had has been at least 4-5 times louder than this notebook. I actually have one right now and the volume is outstanding compared this notebook. Is it possible to actually mod the speakers and get them some more juice some how? It's my biggest pet peev by far.

does asus have the hd realtek audio drivers? if so, there should be a orangish speaker in your taskbar...in the equalizer, you might want to change the equalizer setting to powerful.

It says I have realtek high definition audio in device manager but I do not have the sound manager that you speak of.

The way I increase my W3J's speaker volume is by first using the Windows control (with the grey speaker icon in the taskbar by the clock). If the max is not high enough, then I'll raise the volume in the music player to the max, which raises the output a little. You could probably raise it even more by going into the sound manager and raising each source's volume (ie: putting MP3 to max volume). Putting my W3J on a table also helps because of the downward pointing speakers.

you are not talking about the sound in general you are talking about volume on dvd playback in particular. there are a few hacks out that will increase the volume, you should check out audiophile forums. also i have seen people download a later version of the driver from realtek directly which helped with dvd playback.
