It's pretty obvious a notebook is a pretty major investment. I myself can pay for a W3J with 2 Bi-weekly paycheques. At the same time, I'm saving money for a down payment on a house, a crotch rocket (+ lessons for the crotch rocket), septembers upcoming hockey league, martial arts training and still trying to feed myself enough food to make use of all the time I spend in the gym.

At $2300(CDN), the W3J would definitely fulfill all my wishes in a notebook. However, I could also cheap out and pick something up for closer to $1500 that would fulfill the basic needs I have for the notebook with little room for much else... Except an additional $800 to buy a nice new pimp daddy cell phone and new digital camera!

So it comes down to what I want more... a sweet rig that will handle anything I throw at it, or a bunk system that will do the minor things I need it for and nothing else with a couple cool toys on the side.

    Advice?

Your choice, we aren't here to decide but to inform on details.

The ASUS Z35f is looking good...

Well.. something like the S96J config'd for $1500 will give you the same performance as the W3J, and handle anything you can throw at it... and plus gets you your 2 extra toys :) ...

You could get an A8Jm, pretty much same specs as W3J, just not as fancy looking, or built as well, but, still built well. Its about $1600-1700. Or if your an occasional gamer, you could go for the W7J, pretty much same price as A8Jm, but slower vid ard (Go 7300), but looks much more stylin.

Then you can spend $700 on a digital camera, and a cell phone.

My advice, I bought a Canon S2 IS for my brother, excellent camera, lots of manual controls, and 12X optical zoom. Great picture quality. You should be able to find it for about $400.

As for cell phone, $300 left eh? Hmm....the new samsung D807 looks nice.

    http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_d800-review-76.php

same phone, but the d800 is tri-band.

The LG Chocolate phone (KG-800) very sexy phone, its about $400

    http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_kg800_chocolate-review-88.php

Samsung E900 similar type phone to the Chocolate, but with SD memory card slot, also about $400.

Sony Ericsson K790 is out, its about $450 though. The older version K750 is just as good, about $300, great camera, and has SD slot. Personally I dont like the Sony Ericsson interface.

My favorite phones are Nokias. Symbian OS is very easy to use. I got a Nokia 6620, series 60 OS, and i love it. A Nokia N70 is a great phone also. Stylish, ease of use, and it'll probably cost around $400.

All my prices are in Canadian by the way.

Here's a good place to by phones, with cheap prices. I bought a phone from there, it was late, so he sent me a kit with extra stuff like a case, battery, stuff like that. Its the little things that count. I'd recommend that site bigtime.

    www.markways.com

I could go on forever with cell phones!!

Anyways, thats my two cents, hope it helped!!

Thank you all for the suggestions... Maybe the W7J is a better pic. I was thinking I wanted the modular ODD bay, but the battary for it only adds a hour. I wouldn't be doing too much gaming on it (my time is better spent doing other things) so the 7400 would probably do the trick. It will save me about $300 and about half a pound

If you're one of those ppl that likes to turn heads with your laptop/cell phone/camera then I suggest getting something that you can proudly show off like the w7j/w3j. Otherwise, if you're like me, you'll be tempted to get a new laptop a year or two later when something new or better looking comes out.

Kinda off topic but... what are some good cell phones out there right now? I kinda want something really thin like maybe a Razr but I feel like Razr's are kinda old news. Also, how are those mp3 playing cell phones?

Razrs are popular, but they are pretty good. They get really good reception, in areas most phones won;t get reception at all. You shouldn't base your decision on your phone on whats "popular". The best way is to go to www.phonescoop.com and surf there for what fits what you want/need and what is good.

No way don't go for the razrs at all.. everyones running away from them now lol

I seriously suggest looking into the Sony Ericsson phones (W810, K750, etc.), they have EVERYTHING you'll ever need and more.. and also most Sony Ericsson phones have Quad-band so you can get reception in places far from the city.

If not, I would suggest the new Samsung phones that are out, the E900, D series and such, they are also very good

SE phones are so much better than anything that Motorola makes. The W810 is an excellent phone, especially if you want music ascpect.

I'm looking foward to the new KRZR or the RAZR K1, whichever they are calling it now (also went by the code name canary a while ago). Either that or the slider version of the razr, but I'm not a huge fan of sliders. It seems like the main screen would get scratched to hell/cracked pretty easily.

Has anyone had any experiance with the ASUS P525 pda cell phone? I don't know what disavatages you'd have with it (other than size and battery life). How would it work with current service providers?

What's with the Chocolate phone? The ads are everywhere in China: "I Chocolate you." Buddy, chocolate is NOT a verb! It doesn't even make SENSE!

Sounds like you guys know as much about cell phones as you do about notebooks... I don't even know the model phone I use right now. It's a piece of junk though so I'm looking forward to something new.

I've banked over $7000 since new years and thats not including wipping out any debts and all my living expenses. I'm doing really well as far as income is concerned. It's just that you can't get that money back! If I bought all the wants in my life, i'd be bankrupt. I do need a computer, and am pretty close to needing a new cell. I don't need a camera but I really really want one. Such a hard decision...

I think that was the best suggestion yet!!

    Any other suggestions?
