I bought two UX32VDs, one older DB71 version and the newer DH71 (with windows 8 and 6 gig ram).

The noticeable differences besides the ram is that the battery-to-motherboard connector is insulted with some type of black fabric, and the left speaker of the laptop is not connected to the battery anymore. This means when you unscrew the battery screws and lift up the battery, the left speaker still stays in it's place with screws holding it down. The hard drive compartment is harder to access as you would have to slide+push the hard drive against the foam to take it out.

I have the UX32CD-DH71. I purchased the computer with an upgraded 7200RPM Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500. The HD is the slim edition but I am constantly hearing hard drive scratching. Do you believe when the computer reseller installed the upgraded hard drive that they had to make a modification to the HD (such as removing the casing),to make it fit? I am thinking this might explain the constant loud scratching.

IMO, Hitachi hard drives are really noisy (scratching sound). Get WD if you want a quiet drive.

I've experienced this also. OP: How are you liking the new system? Any major gripes or problems yet?

    Hello,
I am not able to detect any noise coming from the Hitachi drive (supposedly 5400rpm) in my newly arrived UX32VD-DH71. In anyway, I am planning to upgrade to an SSD drive soon.

 Just look through some buying guides and physical - as well as OS - installation guides if you need any advice. Glad to hear you're not having issues with the drive though, in any case!
