Is Asus bringing anything new to the table again? Updating the current Montevina lines? I'd like to know before I get a laptop, since I can still wait a couple weeks before purchasing.

the only thing missing is the wimax, and from what i've read, its not gonna hit shelves until november likely. they already released the 5x00 series wifi adapters for centrino 2.

so, truly, i don't think you are missing out on anything much, in the end, when you need to, you should be able to upgrade to the wimax nic, when they are released. but they may use different antenna tech, so who knows...

i chose to buy my notebook just before centrino 2 came out, and the differences are very very small.

however, looking at asus track history, i'd say they definately will refresh their montevina platforms with the new nic. it will be one of the -a1, -b1, -c1, -d1 etc etc models.

    M50Vm & G50V are both Montevina / Core Centrino 2

I think there is F8 model that also has it but have not followed that series.

WiMAX sounds great on paper but even if you laptop has it what are the chaces you are going to find servers that you can use on that network? Your not going to setup WiMAX in your home, its all about big hotspots and I doubt it will catch on for very long, and places like book stores and stuff are not going to want to use a 30 mile wide transmission so that everybody can hog there bandwidth :p

So in reality I think the actual amount of networks to use this will be very very small.

If you *really* need a laptop, buy today! Do not wait for the upcoming models because there will always be an upcoming model today, tomorrow, 6 months later, 2 years later... all the time...
