i have the u35jc-a1 with the nvidia 310m card with optimus.

    some problems.

programs installed on my computer do not show up in the list of installed programs when i go in to customize which programs run under integrated/discrete. even when i manually add firefox, it doesn't show up.

when watching 1080p videos online, i notice pretty severe frame drops and it continues to run under integrated. in fact, unless i manually turn it on, i have never ever had anything trigger optimus to switch to discrete. [edit: even when i changed the global settings to use the 310m, apparently it doesn't even know firefox is running, since running 1080p videos in firefox with the global settings set to discrete still doesn't make optimus switch to the discrete card.]

i'm just about ready to throw this laptop out the window and get a mac. (i have had nothing but constant little but super annoying problems since day 1

now, my screen has started flickering whenever i go into the nvidia control panel.

Try reinstalling or updating both Intel & Nvidia driver. Are you using latest driver from Asus?

    Heres what you do

Go ahead and update the Bios ( i think the latest is 208 not sure)

Flash it bia the BIOS dont do it via windows

then download nvidias latest drivers from their site I think its 260.1 or something above that

    and bam there you go

if you go to the nvidia control panel youd see the option to change it manually

but once you have updated the bios and nvidia drivers it will work

Or, stick with the one from asus. Like most manufacturers, they do in-house testing with a certain set of drivers.

did you ever get this fix? I'm having the same issue. I have the Nvidia test tool to see if it's running and it never does. It used to automatically switched when i first got the u35jc-a1 but now, it doesn't even do that. I have everything set up on the nvidia control panel to use the discrete graphics but it doesn't seem to work. I'm getting irritated with this laptop. I tried updating the nvidia driver that's on the asus website and it just freezes once i restart it.
