I just got my A8Jm a couple weeks ago and did a fresh install of XP pro, then re-installed the necessary drivers and apps via the Asus utility disc. I've pretty much resolved every issue except this one. Whenever I change the Powermizer state using the Asus-supplied nvidia driver, I get constant display powercycling and horrible corruption. After 30 seconds or so it gets so bad that I have to hold the power button down until the computer shuts down hard. If I restart right after the state change, the restart will complete before problems occur and everything will be fine.
So the end result of this is two big problems:
1) I can't plug/unplug the computer without having to restart *UNLESS* I put the power mizer setting for AC and battery on the same setting, which leads to problem #2
2) If I put the powermizer settings on the same options for both AC and battery to solve problem #1, I can't play any games at full speed without restarting the computer.
The only thing that solves both problems so far is to put both AC and battery on max performance, which of course leads to reduced battery life.
I can't use the drivers from nvidia.com because they don't yet support the 7600 Go.
Has anyone else experienced this problem???

Interesting.. never tried it yet, will give it a whirl and let u know how it goes.
ps. You can download the drivers from LaptopVideo2Go.com...there's an explanation somewhere in their forums about why the drivers from nvidia site won't install properly
Edit: found the thread:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9243 -
But will powermizer even still work at all if I use those laptopvideo2go driver setups? I don't want to lose the ability to throttle my graphics for improved batt life...
-
The drivers they have is just the default NVidia drivers but with modification to allow install ... so you'll still be able to do what you want. U have to read the threads there, I'm still rather confused about it too and haven't bothered installed new drivers.
btw, I was just browsing around the ASUS support/download forum, and managed to find the latest drivers for the Go7600.. it's kinda hard to find... just go to the download site, and for Product, use Graphics Card, and the Model = EN7600 ... they have v91.31 there.. -
i think that driver is for the desktop 7600
i'm interested, but as far as i knew, series 90 drivers didn't allow for powersaving on notebook gfx cards and are only for desktop
i coud be wrong though -
very interesting problem there i havent had any problems like u and i have played around with different powermizer settings.
@Darrick ill take a look at those drivers...but v91 seems like vista beta or something -
laptopvideo2go has nvidia 85.98 drivers from Asus and it says 7600 Go supported without the modded inf...installing it rt now
-
OK, I'm trying to change Powermizer settings and it seems fine.. do you mean I have to change the settings and try disconnect the AC?
-
installed the new drivers no difference in 3dmark05 scores... 3975
-
hey Zyd... what's the max u can get for your Mem when OC ? Mine can't get past 407 ....
-
never tried oc-ing wat do u use? coolbits? i seem to be getting better fps in cs:source just playing rt now...
darrick post here and lemme know how u are oc-ing im taking lappie to work tmrw so enuff time to test that hehe -
I used CoolBits, then RivaTuner.. both same results... Mem is stuck at 407 max... Core can goto 520 and more....
I wonder if I should install the 91.31 version driver ? Seems that driver doesn't do much for benchmarks, it just depends on the vid card we get... -
91.31 doesn't natively have support for 7600GO so I wouldn't recommend it. Get the 85 something thats tested and approved by Asus
Im getting better performance in css so far with them. P4G setting at office and still getting anywhere from 60 - 120 fps in css with cpu @ 54% which is awesome, since cpu doesn't get hotter than 53.
thats @ 4xAA and 4xAF if anyone is interested -
In powermizer, set AC mode to max performance and Battery to max battery, then try plugging the computer. If your screen doesn't start freaking out after a minute or two, try unplugging the computer. If your display still doesn't start freaking out after a minute or two, then you're luckily not having the problem I am.
I'm using XP Pro SP2 with the Asus 83.20 driver that came on the utility CD. -
I'm downloading the newer 84.26 drivers from Asus' site right now. We'll see if that helps.
-
U got 83.20 with yours? Mine came default with 84.26 ...
-
Well the utility/driver disc came with 83.20, I'm not sure what the default install came with since I barely used that before blowing it away.
The 84.26 from Asus site seem to work perfectly. I've tried all the things that screwed up my display before several times now, and no problems yet. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for your help!
