Just wondering how many of you guys and gals are members of facebook? Old friends from college have told me to join for at least a year and I never did... I thought we could make up a group or something so people who would like to know more about those they are talking to can be friends with them?
I know that's out of left field...and off topic.. but I only wanted to pose this to Asus forum members.

I've honestly never heard of this 'facebook'
Sounds interesting.... -
Looks like Facebook is designed to limit to groups within the same school.

I think the facebook is overrated, personally. People put way too much personal information out there, and it angers me that some of this stuff is even an option to display (home address and phone number? give me a break!). I also remember reading something in my college paper about there being some sort of legislation regarding using the facebook and myspace against students somehow...
-
Just don't put info in public view that you don't want public.
-
Wasn't there a story about a school busting a student party that was advertised on facebook? I seem to recall something about this.
Edit: This wasn't what I was thinking of, but here's a pretty interesting article about schools administrators and even employers using facebook: http://www.dailycolonial.com/go.dc?p=3&s=1512
Anyway, I've never used it -- it's hugely popular with the undergrads at my university now, but it wasn't really big at the time I graduated. I try to avoid giving out personal information on the internet anyway. -
I agree with bootstrap. I've read something about a student getting expelled from his school for something he either put on facebook or in his blog (although, I do not know what it was that he wrote).

... ok, bad idea... just thought the forum needed something a little different to break up the boring computer talk all the time.....
But one last thing... I never signed up for that thing, but I thought I'd ask because I get a lot members iming me a lot and yet I really don't know who I'm dealing with. I've heard it's pretty secure in that only those people you designate can see your pictures or information......... but I totally understand. At this point in my life there is information that I wouldn't even want my friends to know........ but some people don't care and put their entire world on display..... I guess you can limit what you put there, but I just thought it was an idea.......
..... Carson Daily was also talking about it the other night saying he wants to be the first person to a million friends or something...... I thought I'd start it up too and use the forum to pad my friend list, lol. -
A facebook group would be cool, but they are only limited to your own school. I am a facebook user and I put my info (phone #, college address) on it, cause only your facebook friends are allowed to see it anyway (it's an option). IMHO I think these forums actually provide a much tighter sense of community than facebook anyway. Oh yea, :asus:
Also off topic (to this thread, but on topic for the forums), Justin or any other vendor, do you know of any upgrades that are coming to the Z71V, such as an internal bluetooth module? I recently got a bluetooth phone (razr black) and I wanna try this stuff out
-
I have a question... how do you "make" friends with facebook if you can't view someone's page without being their friend first?
-

I think, but I don't know..... other people would "invite you", or if you knew what to search for, you could pull up I think just their name and say their main picture.....
.... I can see it being cool to help catch up with old highschool and college friends for sure.... I just thought if people were on it maybe I'd sign up and see what it's all about. -

yep, you can search for their name or any other info and it pulls up the name, school, and picture. From there you can request friendship and the other person gets and email and has to confirm that the 2 people are friends. It's a cool way to keep up with older friends if you wanna use more of a shoutbox method instead of email (my friends and i never use email to keep in touch. it gives convos a certain "business" kind of feeling)

ditto... I guess if anyone wants to start it with me, I'll sign up..... they can put whatever info they want to reveal but I figure if someone want to let you in.... you could learn a lot more about people than their dumb online handles....... For me, I just want a way to drumb up 1,000's of "friends" because I have a complex.
-
ok, let me know if you do and i'll pm you my name & school info (which you'll need to do a global search) so you can add me.
-
PROPortable Company Representative
ok, well I signed up......... anyone who wants to add me as a friend, just search for "o'dea" and "poke" me.
-
EDIT: Oh, there you are. -

it's sorta weird..... but anyone who wants to poke me, I'll add you to my list.. you too sasha, you're obviously on there.
........ and pictures..... pictures suck..... I only added on so some people I haven't seen in years might actually recognize my name........ more stuff to be added later of course, but I guess I've got to start somewhere. -

I set up a little group called: "Asus Mobile Computing" .... anyone who wants to join can and you'll already have a group you can call home........ I left it open and figure this would be a great way to get more Asus users to get together than just those on this site......... the more there are, the more everyone can learn.
.... come on, join up......... it's slightly more addictive than NBR. -
But you can only join groups that are in your school.
And since when was the official site of ASUS www.proportable.com... LOL.
Anyways, my weekend has begun... I will catch you guys later.
Happy Friday! -
PROPortable Company Representative
really? ...... so you can't join this one that I started? .. if not then I'll just delete it.

Wow, you guys just found out about facebook. It has been up for about a year or so. I was very hesitant of signing up but finally gave in. It does suck you can't join groups from other schools or make a global group. That would be cool if you could though. I would be proud to annouce that I am an owner of an ASUS. Facebook, definitely, is a good way to catch up with friends though. I like the wall that they have, but can you believe people spam your wall. Well not spam really, more like chain letters.

I'm on there, at the top go to "global" and search for my name Scott Hildebrand. Then add me or poke me but not too hard.
