I'm more interested in the S62J (the VBI version) simply because I think it'll be cheaper. Right now, the S62j, A8jm, and Compah HGL30 are my top picks.. that is unless Asus releases a new set of coupons again for their EOL ensembles.

I too am interested in the S62J since I want it to be cheaper. However right now there isnt much news on either of them hitting the US anytime soon....

on an interesting note.. the S62j, I believe, uses the AUO B141EW01 lcd screen.. which has a response time of 25ms

Well, now that I know the Z62j comes with a WXGA+ screen, I'm very interested. This would be one of the few 14" notebooks with that resolution available in the U.S.! The next closest thing would be a D620, but I'd really prefer to get an Asus if I can.

Does this farking laptop even exist!? I've been looking at Asus laptops for the last month, and the Z62J seems like exactly what I want. I could settle with a Z96J but that one isn't available either. People have been talking about these models since January/Feb (search this forum or google).

Its hard to stop myself from just buying a Dell with their insane coupons deals (for example $850 off $2000 last month) but I know in the long run i'm better off with an Asus (and frankly, being a certified computer tech, I would feel like an idiot in public with a Dell). My request may fall on deaf ears but does anyone have any REAL info on possible ETA/price for either Z62J or Z96J barebones? If it takes another month I think I will lose all interest in them...

um z96j is like 6-19 u can order it now.

the other one im quite uneducated on. i will off that the w3j and a8jm just hit the market and they wont want to compete with themselves in that size. so im going to say sept./

...more than that: I'm looking at Thinkpad...has the magnesium chassis that the D620 has...and the Z35f/j or a Z62-variant that hasn't existed since it was announced in February 2006...

if you've waited this long, then you know that there're some great laptops/notebook that are great: Thinkpad...SONY/Fujitsu/HP are some to explore to name just a few...even Gateway announced a model that's worth looking at...stay tuned...we're into the 3rd quarter in a couple of weeks....

    Whitney...

This laptop is very nice. However, I hope the S62J is at a decent price, since the Compaq V3000 is looking tempting with its TurionX2 setup.

Come on ASUS sway me back to the S62j/Z62j

HOLY SMOKES. The S62J is like 100 bucks away from the A8JM

That totally cancels it for me. I cant afford it anymore. I thought it was going to start at like $500 to be then built on.

that's odd, most resellers would let you configure it down to the barebone, but this one has no option for no OS. I also recalled others mentioning that the S62J should be $100 more than the Z62f. well with their pricing.. I think you might as well go for the Asus W7J, cheaper and offers more.

I came up with the same reasoning as you, pharoah. I get only about $100 diff between S62J when configured as A8JM is... similar size, weight, and less graphics mem. I also checked it out at Terian http://www.terian.com/page1.asp?p=645
and got about the same result. BTW, I couldn't find anything on Terian as a supplier... their site shows the S62J orderable now, at least up until you give them the credit card info. For me A8JM (MX from P1) or W7J looks better.
