    from NBR news

we will see the first pics of F8 soon in 24 - 48 hours can't wait!!

What do think guyz about the spec?
i hope we see 8600GT 256 GDDR3 at least in it with some carbon fiber or brushed aluminum chassis but NO plastic with LED screen and slot loading drive, sure with camera, finger print reader, esata and HDMI.

so do u know guyz site that will make a coverage for the expo "Computex 2007"?? and what do u think about the spec's??

Well we know a good amount about the C90 already, I just hope they can pull some info out on if and when there will be a release of the bearlake version of it.

I also hope it carries the same MSRP if it does happen to be true.

sorry, but if, as has been said, the F8 is based off the A8, there is no way it's going to be aluminum. What you're describing would be closer to a hybrid V2/W3 refresh, and such a thing doesn't currently exist.

No, its confused is what it is. The info card for the laptop says ATI HD2600 512MB, but the laptop itself has a "Graphics by nVidia" sticker on it next to the Intel and Windows stickers. No one has any clue of which it is.

And it is completely plastic, although nice looking. It has a bamboo hinge like the W3J, just smaller, so there is space for ports on the back and stuff.

Theres another thread on this just below, its got a lot more info. (I suspect these two threads will be merged, or this one will be closed)

How is the F8 overdue? It was not spotted until last week. Also, the LG R500 is 15.4"... It is a totally different market from F8.

SOP for Asus - they don't release model updates until they are ready to, and never near the chipset release dates.

They update their most popular models first, and then slowly the rest. And, come to think of it, they have more models then major manufacturers, they have at least 2 of every size, 12" W5/F9, 11" S6/U1, 13.3" R1/W7, 14" V2/A8/F8?, 15.4" A6/G1/F3/VX/V1, 17" W2/Z84/G2.

Most major brands only have one of each size....!

Not sure they make low end or not but you can always buy the last generation pcs at around 500ish, and those still come with some competitive parts and things for normal users.

No, usually there are 2 (or at least there are for the Dell and HP - business and consumer). Plus, you are forgetting the barebones models - the S96s is already out, the 13" S37s and e are yet to come, as are the S62s and e.

I've been researching laptops for a few weeks now, with the intention of buying one before July. The A8Sc is the closest to what I'm after, but after seeing the F8 I'm really tempted to wait for it.
I don't mind waiting, but I do need a laptop by September at the latest. Given the rumored estiamtes are August, this is perfect.
Problem is, I'm in the UK, so I guess there's a chance it won't be released at all here or delayed (until September or later). Anyone have any experience/info on this? How long does it take for overseaes resellers (i.e. Europe as opposed to US/Canada) to start shipping new ASUS laptops?

Isnt the F8 the Santa rosa A8?
Then i guess it would be in line with A8 Prices.

If a MBP was cheaper this would be over i would just want that (Same size as A8js at least but with bigger screen and thinner)

Also the MBP Can get 3.5+ Hours Battery. I dont think something is mobile if you cant even have a Lil Battery Life. Also do you think they will have 12 Cell Batterys?

I think for me a dv2500t is a better choice. Dedicated Graphics. Good Battery. Small Size. And Just build a PC for gaming.

dv2500t is quite sexy, altho the dedicated graphics would come nowhere close to where the F8 will be. It does say F8 is an update to A8, but it's important to note that A8 is already refreshed for santa rosa. Knowing nothing about the F8's capabilities, having an ATI chip might mean really good battery life without compromising performance. Also the design is completely different. I wouldn't be surprised if the starting price is around the 1700s

I was flipping through some of my old computer magazines, and the W3J started at around $2000 CDN. Keep in mind this was a couple of years ago, when the CDN/US exchange rate was pretty bad. I wouldn't be surprised though if the F8 started at 1700-1800 CDN, which puts it out of my price range.

The dv2500t is nice, but it's not available in Canada yet, and then there's the HP name, which is more mainstream.

I think the F8 is the W3J refresh, while the A8js refresh hasn't happened yet. The W3J had an ATI chip and the bamboo hinge.

I agree, if the MacBook Pro was priced in the $1500CDN range, I definitely would buy that.

The W3 is dead, ain't coming back. If anything, the F8 is a merge of the W3 and perhaps a new chassis design. It doesn't seem familiar to anything. On another note, we haven't seen the opened notebook yet, just the sides and back!

Sorry to keep on, but does anyone have any knowledge/estimates on how long ASUS usually takes to release a laptop model in the UK after its US/Canada release?
In particular, I'm referring to the F8. I understand it's impossible to make predictions on a product that hasn't even had an official press release yet, so I guess I'm really asking about ASUS' track record in releasing worldwide.

No idea, but N.A. doesn't always have notebooks to be released first, I recall a few to be released in the UK before anywhere else(besides Taiwan of course). It really depends on ASUS UK, if they feel a certain model will not sell, they won't bring it to the UK, same goes for N.A. and anywhere worldwide(like Australia, they never got the A8!).

Cheers. I guess I'll keep an eye out for any official word from ASUS in the comming weeks.
Other than the A8Sc, my immediate alternatives are the Zepto 6224 or HP DV2500, both of which are rather new to the UK. So I'll play the waiting game until these two have more reviews / become more established, before making a decision.

The f8 is definitely an a8 series with a different lcd lid.

all the same ports in the same places. Although ive never seen a pic of the left side of the f8... where the a8j has firewire and 2 usb ports, this one probably has esata instead.

It is the same measurements Its just the hinge is different.

is it worth it to wait for it

the real question is not for the new specs because i don't need Santa rose but for:
1-does it will have better build quality than a8 and i think better looking?
2-does it will have better speakers?
3-does it will have better screen?
4-does the price will be the same?

guys do you really think is it worth it to wait for the F8

    thanks

I prefer the Brushed Aluminium lid of the W3J, if the F8 is going to be based on the A8, I wonder what the top end replacement for the W3J will be???

    1. Most likely. Have you seen the picture? It has a bamboo lid and is black, which the A8 does not have.
    2. Good speakers and laptops don't mix. Probably about the same as the A8.
    3. Not sure.
    4. Probably more than the A8js, due to it being newer.
