My cars initial purchase price was more then my Z33, not by much though. A couple hundred dollars. My current desktop (which I rarely use this year...) was a couple hundred dollars more then my car:

Well I must have the oldest car .in the UK I have a Peugeot 106 GTI Not a bad car ..
But parked up in a garage at home in NZ I have a 1974 mini it has been a project car since starting Uni in 1994 that I have built up from a chassis, and over the years it has had plenty of mods, I have gone through 3 engines, the first was a 1300 block 1275 head and 3K of engine work (my dads mate used to build mini racing engines) it was fast. Now it has a newer MG Metro engine, the same engine that was coming out in the last of the old school Cooper minis in 2003, it is running a 28/36 Webber carb and full exhaust, but when I get back to NZ I will be porting and planning the head amongst others engine mods.
It may be old but and my mates recon I should sell it and get a modern car but at the end if the day, power to weight ratio is great, and with all of the suspension mods and low profile 175x13 wheels it is surprising what it will keep up with around the hills, not great for motorway but it definitely handles better that the Peugeot 106 GTI I have here in the UK and it sounds great, oh yeah and I also have 5-6K of audio gear including 4 amplifiers component speakers 10 and 15 kicker Subs and a split charge twin battery system, I managed to hook it up to an RTA machine and at 40Htz it produces 139dB.
Misspent youth .. man I miss that car, its a joy to drive.Attached Files:

My two 'cars I intend to own in the next 10 years' are at opposite ends of the spectrum:
-Mazda MX-5 Miata (haven't decided what year/color/options) 5spd
-1967 Chevelle, Boleo Red, black convertible top, with a 396 or 427 big block and a 4-speed
Maybe that's odd, but I think that the reliable small sporty car and the constantly-under-restoration muscle car would compliment each other very well... -

Yes, unfortunately the RX-7 was last sold in the US in 1995 and production in Japan stopped in 2002.
I strongly encourage you to pick one up if you haven't already. In my opinion they are some of the all around best cars to ever come from Japan. If you want a more modern experience of a rotary then you should look at the RX-8. It's not as raw as the old school 7s but it's much more practical.

oh definitely.
In stock car races miata is everything. Blows away cars such as the honda s2000 porsche boxster whatever.
This is the 2nd gen miata. this new one isnt in the same league. It would have an advantage in straight lines though.
Its far from a secret every sports car owner knows what the best handling car is. Its the best seller too... -
The autocross guys don't have the Gen3 Miata dialed in yet, but from an engineering perspective it should have the capability to do even better. Give it a year or two and I'm sure it will catch up. The previous Miatas were a stable platform for 16 years and now they are having to start all over again.
-
oh no way. weight is like 500 pounds more size is huge. no way to make that thing keep up. Its the same reason why ur porsche 911 cant keep up just physics.
This 3rd gen one has a much better motor than anything in the 2nd gen though. -
I'd love to get one of those late 90's miata's and turbo it

A 2005 Hyundai Elantra. I like getting the best bang for my buck

I saw one for sale this summer that was 1 of 352 of that model/color/option package, with a hard top, for $6k in great shape. There was no way I would buy such a nice car and drive it back home across the country, through. Too bad... -
How far across the country were you? -
I go to school in NY, and I've spent the last two summers working in CA. So 3067 miles or so. Basically as far as you can be and still be in North America.

Potsdam, way up north by Canada. That was a pretty big snowstorm from what I hear - I've had bad experiences with that lake effect snow myself on some road trips to Cleveland area.
I did the drive in 5 days. Probably could have done it in less, but work was paying for hotels so I figured I'd take advantage of it and get a good night's sleep every night. -
Well the mazdaspeed miata was turboed. The new engine though isnt turboed but its 2.0 liter and it is more powerful than the turbo version.
Not that there are a whole lot in junk yards for you to try and find though. But that would be a great car the 2nd gen body with the new engine.
A lot of people put the rx7 engine in a miata as well.
I wouldnt because Im not a track driver I want the regular 4 cylinder with the best gas mileage the old 1.6
I see them for sale occasionally here in california. Theyre never cheap but they are usually well taken car of. I dont like the convertible part of it either.... I mean id use it on a hot day but rarely. So Id rather have a hard top also.
A similar car you usually can find for cheap is the toyota mr2. -
Which Rx7 engine were you talking about? the 2nd gen or the 3rd? -
Really?
the mr2s I see in my area for $1000 or less regularly. Its weird to think of why but it just has more plastic on it. It is hard top only in the early 90s as well. Harder to work on, basically just inferior to a miata but only barely
not necessarily cheap as far as all cars but cheaper than a miata.
Yet another one to look for is called the pontiac fiero. It has some really nice features but unfortunately a gm motor.
As far as the rotaries I would guess you want the old one because the cost of the computer for the efi version.
Then you definitely have a huge hp/weight car but not a reliable car with good gas mileage. Thats a track frankenstein sort of thing
car nuts put the rotary in every car ever made... -

Well, hoping to pick up an older used Pontiac Vibe or Mazda Protege hatchback, I don't need the power, but need the space and fuel efficiency

Hmm.. At least I am happy on those counts - An avg. of 17-19 kmpl(petrol), and very easy o drive on the congested roads here. It's one of the most fun hatchbacks I've driven. And slips in and out of traffic easily.

Since my last post we have upgraded.
Well theres one thing I love about the UK when you have an accident they pay out well, I have been here for 4 years now my girlfriend started with a Vauxhal, which got rear ended, then a Citroen saxo, when she got run off the road the road smashed up the front and a week later hitting a deer finished that car off and then we got a Citroen Saxo (the only car we sold) and then the Peugeot 106GTI (thanks to some local fencing contractors) just before christmas on the small country lanes smashed into us writing that car off!!
But every time the insurance companies have paid out about 10-20% more than what we paid + expenses, so we have been able to upgrade each time for very little cost, we only spent an extra £1200 to get a very nice 2001 2.0L Peugeot 206GTI (from ebay ha ha)Attached Files:
