    Hello again G1s owners.

I've just directory copied Oblivion over from my PC (as I can't find the CD yet - just moved house).

I downloaded the appropriate DLL files and copied them to system32 and Oblivion works fine, BUT

It will only run in windowed mode. Being my first experience with Vista Ultimate, I'm not sure if it's Vista or Oblivion or what...

I edited the config file to 1680x1050 and bFull Screen=1 and I've tried creating a new config file etc The damn thing won't go in full screen mode.

Sure it takes up the whole screen, but it has a slight white bar on the left side and the menu title bar up the top. I think running it this way uses more system resources - it's pretty chunky on the same settings my PC runs it with an x800XL. (Although this could also be the 4200rpm drive).

Anyway... please help me get it running in full screen mode!

    Many thanks in advance :D

Ok I figured out the problem, but there's more...

The original problem was that due to my inexperience with vista, I was editing the wrong ini file.. The oblivion.ini file is in multiple locations and ONLY the one in the Documents\My Games\Oblivion directory affects the game.

My problem now is that only resolutions available from the in-game drop down menu work. If I try to put in a differnt 16:10 resolution like 1280x800 or 1440x900 it just says "Oblivion has stopped working".

1680x1050 is too intense for me to run Oblivion, but there aren't any other 16:10 aspect resolutions available! Does anyone know a way around this?

OK I will try that at next opportunity. In meantime does anyone know anything about omega drivers? I've tried researching a bit and it seems that some people have solved this problem with omega drivers for nforce.

But I'm not sure the 8600m GT uses these drivers?

Anyway the problem is described as mostly being the inability to ALT-Tab, interferences from animated desktop activity (ie MSN window pops up into a full screen game or the volume adjustment animation flickers between the game and desktop), the inability to open games in a resolution not pre-listed in-game and a few other inconvenient things..

Does anyone know more about fixing these driver issues? Cheers!

Oblivion doesn't let you alt-tab, and interference that kicks you out of full screen can crash the game. It's not your computer, it's just how the game works.

1366x768 didn't work. I'm going to install XP onto a 7200.2 16mb drive tonight/tomorrow. Maybe that'll be enough to allow oblivion to run fine in 1680x1050.

Should do, considering it runs fine on my PC which is slower overall and runs an X800XL.

I'm still curious about this omega thingo

do you have those resolutions are options normally? ie can you switch your desktop to them? there are programs out there that can create custom resolutions if you want. But I find that the native res is usually the only one that works all that well for both performace, and due to a pixel not actually being symetrical.

Good point dmak. The desktop resolution options through VISTA are pretty much the same as in Oblivion - only one 16:10 resolution: 1680x1050.

This should indicate that the issue is the display driver. I need an nvidia control panel or something perhaps.
