Ok, so according to Fedex tracking I will be getting my W3V tomorrow in the mail.
What I'm curious about is what I should do when I first get it. Sure, I'm eager to load games and other applications on it but I want to make sure I have the latest drivers and stuff.
Is the current bios being shipped the most up-to-date or do I need to download a new one? What do I need to do to update it? Bios updates scare me as I've never done one except for my router, I want to make sure I do this right, if I have to.
I've read that CHC is superior to the battery management software that Asus offers with the W3V; should I use CHC or both in conjunction?
That's all I can think of at the moment, thanks in advance for help on this topic!

I am using CHC and Powergear at the same time. CHC for clock speed and PowerG for screen brightness. Seems to be working just fine.
As far as what you should do out of the box. I only thing I changed so far is updated the ATI graphics driver to the lastest Omega ones. For software, I loaded the typical MS office, Acrobat etc etc. Bios-wise, my motto is if it ain't broken, don't fix it..... that is unless the newer one have some significant improvement.
Also, I am tempted to get rid of the Norton stuff, but I am too lazy and will probalby just do it once the 3 months license expires. -
I follow your motto as well. But I'd consider updating the bios if it offered any significant features. I've read about the Hypermemory feature which I may consider upgrading for if its not offered with the current bios.
If it comes with Norton I will probably remove it as I generally don't have a problem with viruses or spyware with free software that I use now. -
The first thing I did when I got the W3V is to convert the hard drive's file systems to NTFS. Then, I installed Nero and ASUSDVD. I uninstalled Symantec Internet Security because it doesn't work well in limited user mode.
When you update Windows XP with the numerous amount of patches on Windows Update, make sure not to install the updated Marvell Yukon LAN driver. That driver will prevent the W3V from resuming from hibernation. There's really no need to update the drivers unless the current ones are broken in some obscure way. -

I'm about to do some more posting on new findings from hypermemory (should have it done tomorrow), but you may want to check that out when I post it.
Ditch Norton - Kapersky or even PC Cillin all the way! -
Im not sure if it was just the settings that I had, but when I was running rightmark (CHC) and power4gear at the same time under battery it was underclocking my cpu down too much. I think the rightmark was clocking it down a certain % and then power4gear clocked it down additionally. But basically my computer was running at 133mhz when on battery so I uninstalled power4gear and it works great now.

Thanks for the responses guys, I really can't wait to play around with it. I will probably fiddle around with CHC and power4gear and see what suits me best. I probably don't want to underclock my CPU too much, if at all, to play certain games now and again.
And you are right Justin, unless I have a doppelganger living next door or something. Heh. -

I'm not done with this, but I did manage to get the physical photos up showing how hypermemory changes with different amounts of system ram........
I'm going to add more about what hypermemory actually helps, but there are a lot of people who can't seem to reproduce what I talked about a few months back.....
