So I finally got an Asus F3T from newegg this afternoon. and after fighting with vista, I've finally got things working pretty well (the extra 1gb ram comes tomorrow :) ).

Anyway, Asus's app 'NB Probe' doesnt seem to be functioning properly.

IT monitors my CPU/GPU temps as 'normal/45,' but I get a 'FATAL' on the hard drive.

The hard drive works though, since i'm obviously using the notebook.

What does SMART - Fatal mean? Cause for concern or bug.

I'd really like to test out the gaming abilities of this machine, but I'd like to know if I'm going to overheat :-/

    thanks :)

Check out PROPortable's info regarding Asus NB Probe on

    The Tablet PC Review Forum.

If you haven't uninstalled the two programs he mentions, do that (and maybe even reinstall NB Probe) and see if it helps.

Doesn't notebook hardware control display S.M.A.R.T. information as well? Maybe you could check what that reports for your HD?

NHC doesnt seem to report hard drive information. Aren't the BIOS supposed to be picking up on a HD error? They aren't so I'm assuming its a bug within the program. *confused*

On the right side of the hard disk page in NHC, there should be a link for Show HD SMART or something like that..... this will give you the printout of the HDD's info.

BIOS doesn't really do HD monitoring well until it's long past too late. You could always run a chkdsk (whatever the current command is in Vista, I'm not sure) too, but I think you should find what you need in my suggestion above.

am I using the same NHC program? NHC won't even give me a hd temp... and I cant find any info on the HD that reads error...

The HD side of the notebook gets warmer than the other parts of the computer, but I think thats because vista is eating up a ton of swap.

This one? Best I can do, unfortunately - I'm not sure where else to go for you, unless there is something specific about NHC pr6 in the F3 series, which hasn't been written about around here that I'm aware of :(.

one more thing before I bug ASUS technical support (anyone know if they outsource it?)

what program can I use to monitor my VGA temp? On my desktop the nvidia drivers can monitor the temp, but apparently not so on this notebook.

    thanks

Haha NHC is great, but it always tries to shut down my computer since the CPU hovers above 95 degrees C. (Don't ask).
