    Hey there

I've got an odd problem happening with my Asus M70Vm.

I restart the laptop after being in an OS (I have a dual boot system with XP Home and Win 7 RC1 ) and it restarts, posts but then it restarts again without even showing the boot menu, but then it works fine, it just seems as though it's having to reset again after the first post.

Not sure but I think this also happens on a cold boot as well.

I can't see anything happening when I turn off quiet boot either as the text scrolls too quickly.

Is this anything to worry about?

try restoring "User Defaults" in bios, see if it still restarts.

Yes, this may be the "double boot issue due to 2nd HDD" also encountered in the G50, I guess.

Like thalanix says, in that case you may need to restore to User Defaults (not Manuf. defaults) twice, sometimes, and save the settings after each time, in order to solve this problem.

(I don't have a G50 or M70 but that's what I remember from the posts about this problem)

    Erm Ok.

    I don't have a 2nd HDD though?

I do have an external usb HDD plugged in, does that count?

I think it also does it when the usb hdd is not plugged in though.

I had a look in the BIOS and the boot priority was set to network 1st, cd/dvd 2nd, usb 3rd and hdd 4th, I didn't set that, the last time I was in the BIOS it was set to hdd/dvd/usb/network.

I put the boot priority back to how it should be but it still does it.

I'll try restoring the user defaults though and see what that does.

But there is a slot for a 2nd HDD as far as I can remember, on the M70? Unless I'm confused for some reason. And in that case, the BIOS can get confused due to it, as it does sometimes on the G50.

Yes it does have a second HDD slot. It's empty though but if the BIOS can still detect that it has a second slot, something which I wasn't aware of, I thought that the BIOS only recognised a HDD slot once there was something in it, then I suppose that it could be the same problem.

I'll find out later when I reset the BIOS...

the SATA controller is on the motherboard (compared to IDE, which had it part of the hdd), so the BIOS will be able to recognize every SATA port whether something's connected or not.

based on the similarity between g50/n50/n70 bios', user defaults should fix it for you (you can set anything else like quiet boot after).

Ok well over the last few days it hasn't been doing it, I didn't touch the BIOS settings after I adjusted the boot order the other day.

But, I think it is due to me having my external USB HDD plugged in when I reboot, because the last few days I've not had my external USB HDD plugged in.

Thanks for the advice though, it's much appreciated. :)
