I'm currently torn between an Asus G73jw and the Sony VPCF1390X (as per this thread ( link)).

Background: I live in Europe but plan to pick up the laptop when in US for a 2 week trip in November. I can buy it online and have it delivered already at a friends place in the US or I can buy it at a store when I get there.

I had a couple of questions about getting the Asus:
    1. Where to Buy: The Asus website doesnt have an official online store and their where to buy page has like a zillion links. I've found a few online sites ( PowerNotebooks.com, XOTIC PC etc.).
    - Is there any set of recommended sites where I can buy this? Is it better to directly order online, or call and discuss with a sales rep?
    - Or is there a store in and around the San Francisco area where I could go and pick it up?

    2. Warranty: I've seen that Asus offers a 2 year Global Warranty, which helps me much as I won't be living where I buy. Also, reading on some problems which the Asus has, this warranty would help mitigate some risk.
In your experience, how is the Asus consumer support cell? If I have issues in Europe, is there a chance I'll end up way frustrated (it happened with Dell, and I've pretty much sworn off their machines)

Asus Europe has a lousy reputation for quite some time around here regarding warranty work, but if you're on the continent and need RMA service that's where it's going to have to go.

If you purchase for US based reseller, warranty is via Asus global region for a standard config and via reseller if a custom job. Any US based reseller (Powernotebooks, Xotic, BTOTech, GentechPC) will be fine, but you'll have to check which ones will ship overseas since I don't believe this is an option for all of them.

    Hello
I want to know if the notebook fails.
Will i have to return the notebook to re-install and unmodified back to factory spects before is sent back to asus for repairs ?
or to the Reseller i got it from?

How would we know which company has the best Tech support & customer service ? :(

    Thanks
