The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Hello all,

TheMusician and myself, have started what I hope to become the official wiki for the UL30 series. http://asus-ul30.wikispaces.com

Currently, It includes an extensive FAQ section that was compiled from the relevant UL30 Owner's Lounge threads with a variety of different links and information added, as well as technical specs and and disassembly information including links to service manuals. Soon a page will be added with download links to the most recent drivers from the applicable corporate pages (ex Intel for the Matrix Storge and wireless etc.)

It is our goal to have the wiki be the source for information on the Asus UL30. For that to happen we need your help. Please apply to be a contributor on the wiki and add anything you feel will benefit. It is really quick and easy to do. :)

Alot of progress has been made in a short amount of time and with your help we can make it one the most informative laptop wikis on the net.

    Thanks in advance.

Just briefly skimming the FAQ pages, there are a few things missing. I probably won't apply to be a contributor just yet so I'll just give my 2 cents and list them here for others to edit if they agree.

    1. 30 day zero-bright dot screen warranty

    2. The Incase 13.3" neoprene sleeve is one of the better quality sleeves on the market. It's padding is thicker and provides more protection. Although it's marketed towards the 13.3" MacBooks, it's also a perfectly snug fit for the UL30 series.

    3. I would not recommend purchasing any power adapters from ebay. There are too many counterfeits and it's often very difficult for the average Joe to distinguish which ones are real and which are the fakes. Conterfeit power adapters poses a great fire risk and IMO it's not worth the few bucks saved. For more information see this link. My suggestion is to purchase one directly from the Asus estore or from an authorized Asus reseller.

    4. Users have reported OC'ing their CPUs beyond 1.9GHz. My Guide is a bit out-dated and only has instructions for a 1.9GHz OC. 2.4GHz is the new limit I believe.

5.One of the most crucial suggestions that is missing from the SSD section is to avoid purchasing SSD without TRIM support. This means, all the first generation SSDs should be ruled out. TRIM support is an important feature that helps prevent your drive's degradation over time. Without it, your drive could run even slower than a mechanical HDD after long periods of use.

    6. In the antenna section, I don't recommend routing the second antenna to the speakers unless you're just too lazy or don't want to risk breaking your laptop by routing it to more optimal areas of the system such as behind the screen panel. The screen panel provides the best location for the antenna since it's the furthest away from any other hardware (less interference) and is usually propped higher which usually means better reception. Almost every laptop manufacture has their wifi antennas set up that way. Just follow the disassembly guide and you should be fine.

Jackluo, I messaged you on the wiki.

David, Thanks for your advice. You were personally cited for your excellent work on the ASUS Bloatware post. I would love for you to be a contributor. In the meantime, I will try to note your changes in FAQ. Thanks.
