Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
It's either this or a Lenovo Y460 for me-whichever comes out cheaper. I was really let down after CES that the N81 will have no successor. Guess I was wrong.

. My F3SV is really showing its age, so I'll be one of the first in line for this N82. That or I'll give in and buy the N61JQ.

darn ASUS. they move quicker than most companies! I'll set aside the U30Jc for this one. Although it is 14", the G335M is a winner!
-
Seems like there is a sliver of hope that the North American variant will end up with a HD 5730. I'd pay more for a 14" ASUS with switchable graphics and HD 5730 than an HP Envy! Even though I know it wouldn't come to that. Look at the N61 with quad core i7 and HD 5730 for $1049 CAD at NCIX. ASUS is really good this round.
-
is there and ETA for these?
-
Nice!
I guess the build is really sturdy looking the picture.
If the display is better than the old N81 too, the N82 is in my list especially with the integrated IntelHD you can use it like an office notebook. -
-
I think when they say "graphics options" or "processor options" they mean that there will be variants for both. Kind of like the N61 series had a variant for i7 (JQ) and i5 (JA) that had the 5730 and the JV (same variant suffix as in that picture) had nVidia graphics. I imagine they may follow the same naming scheme for the N82 as they did for the N61.
Man they better bring that i5 model over here. I was all set to buy an N61JA when that got discontinued, I hope the same doesn't happen here. -
I'm still hoping for the HD 5730. It should be a stronger card than the GT 335M. Given the 19W TDP for the HD 5650, I'd think the HD 5730 wouldn't be much worse either.
-
Yeah really, and with switchable option, it doesn't really matter that much.
When you are mobile, you are using the integrated IntelHD anyways.
Can't understand why Nvidia's mobile chips are getting so much "attention" while you can rarely find notebooks with the ATI HD 5000 series , which is in my eyes just better because of better efficiency and support of Direct X 11.
Nvidia's GT300 series is nothing more but a renaming of the 200 series..... -

I hope US models come with atleast i5 520m, or a i3 340m turbo boosted 33%. Either one is about the same, but yeah should be able to get 4-5 hours battery life atleast when in battery saving settings and integrated graphics and a good 8cell. This would be the perfect system for around $1000.
-
I just want it to be an i-something (i don't even care) and the HD 5730 or 5650. That'd be perfect indeed. . . although even if it's just a 335M I'd still buy.
-
Yeah a 5730 would be amazing, im not sure I want a i7 though, as im hoping to get atleast 4-5 hours out of it the more the better so an I5 would probably be perfect for my build. Anyone know what a new i7 gets for battery life with integrated graphics?
I just noticed the n61jq only has a 6 cell, which brings me to believe this one might not have an 8 cell after all. I really hope it does :/ -
5730 is perhaps a bit unrealistic, but Asus should bring a N82 model with a ATI 5650.
I mean , the N81 also had the ATI 4650.The 5650 consumes 15-19 watt. I wonder about the GT 335M
But regarding performance, the 5650 is the superior videocard. -

very nice looking laptop, with USB 3.0 and eSATA.... wish they would put those on the G73JH
(don't forget to click on the picture links as well , especially the last few. Show girls ^^) -

Hopefully more details on this trickle through soon...
I was waiting on the k42, but was cautious of the 5470...
These N82 configurations look VERY interesting.
I bought a budget lappy in the meantime..but will gladly return it if the price/package/timing on the N82's looks good -
same, i was settling for a k42 for a while and was just saving up money to get it.
but now with the n82 i have a bit more time to save and get to have an esata port
im hoping it has an i5-540m config, that with either the 335m or a 5650/70 and im good. im actually kinda wanting nvidia vs ati on this one simply bc of CUDA... dunno if thats justified but like i said either card is good for my needs
i bet that 8 cell will be amazing while on the intel hd graphics -
Why 1366x768 again
N series is a good laptop for me in everything except the screen resolution.
I really hope ASUS will provide more screen res options for future N series. -
-
-
-
-
Exactly, I have an A8Js and am in the same boat you are. I'm holding out for this over the K42 because I'd like a faster stock processor, but what I wouldn't do for a 1440 x 900 screen in a 14.1 inch laptop again.
-
I can't really tell what colour the N82 is from the photos. It looks brown in some shots and bronze in others. Hope retailers hurry up. If the N61 had a higher resolution I would've got it, but 1366x768 seems to be alright for a 14" laptop. -
I think the thing is probably the same dark brown color as the N61. One of the links above (I forget which one) has a close up of a corner of the lid, and it shows this brown interlaced hexagonal pattern. What intrigues me, though, is that there are Asian variants with the pure white covers. Man, those are nice...
-
+1
I want the white badbut I can NEVER find one in Canada. I'm not a huge fan of brown, but I might be able to settle on it.
-
Now i am just hoping that the display shines really bright and the contrast is good so that i can put some antireflection foils on it.
-
Agreed I would love to have a higher res option. Bump it up to 1440x900. The Alienware M11x is 11" and it has 1366x768. Why is it so hard for companies, other than Zepto, to get 1440x900 in a 14.1"?
-
Would be 1600 x 900 actually, since it's probably 16:9.
Asus has included WXGA+ in their 14.1 models previously as I recall.
If you want a higher res, the HP 8440p/w has the option for 1600 x 900 as well. -
High resolution display usually are only in the very best models.
It's not hard to build a top notch notebook, but it's all about money in the end. -
Asus should bring white versions to north America too. the white f6ve looked really nice too, much more interesting than the totally black version, but again Asia only.. -

Just hope Asus actually brings this to North America... the N61-JA (w/ i5 CPU) is not
-
- 2.53GHz Intel Core i5-430M Processor
- 4GB of DDR3 1066MHz SDRAM, 2 slots, 8GB Max
- 500GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM); Super Multi Optical Disk Drive; Wi-Fi 802.11 bgn
- 16-Inch HD LED LCD Display; 2.0MP Webcam; HDMI Port; NVidia GT325M Graphics Engine with 1GB DDR3 Dedicated VRAM
- Windows 7 Home Premium
The graphics card is different. I'm not sure about bluetooth or the USB 3, but it looks close. Not that you can buy this one either.
If it shows up at xoticpc or GenTech, I will probably buy one. I would like to spend the savings on a wireless card upgrade and some Thermal Compound -
chewietobbacca Notebook Evangelist
The 5730 made that machine well-rounded. The GT 325M, while decent, is much much weaker -
Has anyone come across any websites that state exactly what'll be coming to North America for the N82?
-
-
-
What I don't understand is why they're using such crap graphics cards when they have switchable graphics, other than because of cooling. Even only 1 hour of battery life on discrete graphics is fine, since if I'm not plugged in, I'd be using the Intel. -
That said, we still don't know what video cards the different variants of the N82 might include -- just that one variant appears to have a 335M. -
335M in Asus N82 is DDR2 or DDR3 ?
I have look in Nvidia website. 335M has only GDDR3 and DDR3 no DDR2
but in the past if asus didn't say that is DDR3 that notebook's video card should have DDR2 -
I don't think GDDR2 is being used anymore. Now the distinction's just GDDR3 and GDDR5. As for the GT 335M: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-335M.24060.0.html

If it has the 5730 in it and those specs... That's exactly what I am looking for. I was eyeballing the old N81Vp for a while, but disappointed by the other options as far as a mix of portability and performance.
This is very exciting! I hope Asus makes this model what it could and should be. -
same reason why all car shows, Grand Prix have girls
