The strap of my Asus laptop carrying bag, which came with my W3V, broke with my W3V inside! My bag and laptop fell from about 2 feet above the ground, as I was bending down to put on my shoes. There appears to be no external damage to my W3V, however, now the colours displayed by the LCD are distorted (e.g. white areas appear as cyan and dark areas are speckled with red, etc.). :(

Besides the distorted colours, there seems to be no other damage.

My W3V is still under warranty. Do you have any suggestions on how go about in rectifying this problem

Crying and whining until you get your way? Works for babies... And I'm assuming your W3V was your baby so...

Maybe send an email to ASUS and ask them about it.

Maybe the LCD cable just came loose - check that out first. I wish I could tell you how, but somebody else might be able to.

Maybe admitting that YOU dropped it on a public forum wasn't the wisest thing to do first...maybe if you omit that from your story and say...tell asus that you just booted the computer up like you always do and the colours seem to be off...maybe they'll be a bit more helpful. :)

Good call...yeah, my new response is, beg AuroraS or one of the moderators to delete this entire thread...and then call Asus and say something isn't quite right with the colours on your screen...you never dropped it, nothing out of the ordinary happened, you simply booted up like you always do, and for some strange reason...this time things are off.

Before you follow that advice, make absolutely sure there's no other physical damage what so ever like you've mentioned...Physical damage is another word for "Proof" and you don't want there to be any "proof" of you dropping it. then follow the plan exactly as I said above, and you're all good.

Good luck, and remember, it never happened :)

Everyone is right if there is no damage on the outside the warranty will cover it. Im willing to bet the cable came loose.

I didn't drop it. One defect (poorly designed strap) in an Asus product (my bag) led to the damage of another Asus product (my W3V), which are technically the same product as they are sold together.

Don't get me wrong. I love my Asus W3V! But c'mon Asus: there is a reason they don't sell matches and fire extinguishers together. I used the product as Asus intended: to travel, put laptop in laptop carrying bag.

How can I check if the cable is loose?

did you guys read his post? The bag that Asus bundled with the laptop broke, he did not drop it. It is partially Asus's fault for a defective bag? It could make a good argument. I would just RMA it and don't give them details unless they ask for them. I wouldn't lie about it either as many are suggesting. If a company cares about its customers they usually are understanding to honest ones.

Although it was the "bags fault" that your LCD is now messed up, there is less of a chance they are going to help you if you just flatout say that it just got messed up all on its own.

It may not be as ethical, but if you want support from the warrenty, the damage must not be self sustained, IE not from a fall or liquid damage.

The warranty was for the notebook, not for the bag. RMA with as little details as possible, as the above post says, but if they start asking, then I'd tell the truth.

Bags are consumerables - they break down. True...not all do, but what do you want for zero dollars and zero cents?

Just say it's messed up and you want to get it fixed - that's the best answer.

    It's a Targus bag though.....blame them? ;)

But with your limited amount of options to take....your call.

I'm preety sure its due to the connection btw the lcd to your x600 graphics, its loose, to play safe i would prefer if u would just bring ur w3v to the service center and have em do it.

I would say just tell them the truth and say the stupid strap broke. They will have a look and probably fix it without any troubles.

Trust me, being honest gets you things as well.

    Goodluck,
    Mike

Curse the bag. You must have had a lot of goodies in the bag for the strap to break like that :p

Read your warranty terms (the warranty card when you bought the notebook new). I don't think the bag is qualified as something that can be warranted.

Jsis, that's probably true, but the thing is they don't ALWAYS go by the book on some things. There are special cases and if you talk to the right people they do you a favour as long as you're honest from the beginning.

Just send it in and tell them the truth. PERIOD.

My suggestion after having to deal with probably the worst customer support (Gateway) for my parents, is that less is more. I agree that it may be unethical, however you don't want to provide them with a reason to decline your RMA claim. I'm not saying they will, however I've encountered issues in the past and learned from them. Go the standard excuse route, which was "It looked like that upon boot" and take it from there. The less info they know about the bag and the fall the better. Certainly double and triple check for physical damage, though. Most likely if you call them they'd walk you through some potential software fixes i.e. check the driver, settings, etc. (which Im guessing won't work) and then they'll go ahead with your RMA.

You're right, the ASUS laptop bag w/ the W3V is horrible, the same thing happened to me, luckily my laptop wasn't in it. I was walking down stairs and the strap broke and the thing fell 20 feet. I guess it's a good way for Asus not to have to honor their warranties j/k

Well, after dealing indirectly with Asus and going through my retailer, Asus replaced my LCD. Neither my retailer nor Asus asked any questions. The whole process took only 6 days.

    :asus:

Now, I am looking to replace the bag with an Axio Fuse Hardpack. Any thoughts?
