After syncing my gmail accounts to Outlook, I notice that the little screen above the keyboard on the G1S actually shows a flashing mail symbol and the subject title of incoming emails as I receive them. Nice!
Since I got the G1S, I was wondering why they included the device simply to show the ASUS logo and then a tiny, rather useless clock.
What else can this screen do? Am I missing out on some more options?
I know it can be edited through the direct console device, but all of those options seem rather superfluous.
Also, the green/red/orange LCDs on the bottom front of my G1S has never had the blue mail indicator turn on. What do I need to do to get the indicator to show? Is the chkmail utility required for that?
Thanks!

LOL...There's a hidden camera behind the screen too. LOL, kidding.

Since I don't own a G1S I'm not sure of all the functions of the small LCD, i read somewhere that it can be programmed to show a message which is specified by the user, for the LED indicators you need to have the chkmail utility installed for them to work and I think you need the wireless control panel for the wireless LED to work.

It also displays the name of the person who messages you on MSN if you are using another window. Very useful.

It's also how the NSA is tracking your and your behavior. Good luck.
On the serious side, I like how it shows the clock. That's the way I know how much of my life I have wasted when playing a full-screen game. -

Someone here in the forums was able to import a customized picture (i believe it was their signature) on that small LCD too.

you can add icons as long as they're only 2 colors (ie black and white, blue and white)...no grey scale or shading etc.

i love it when it tells me who is talking to me on the msn
Ohhh, so this little screen does more than show a clock?! What else can it do?!
