I have an asus n80vb (t5800(2.0ghz),9300m gs, 250gb hd)..Ok I bought a hp elite 6930p with a broken screen off craigslist for $235 powers up screen broke but works with vga monitor..It has a p8600 2.4ghz 45nm on it. I was wondering can I swap out cpu's on it. My chipset is the intel pm45. I can use the extra battery life because I travel alot and I know the Penryn is great on battery life.So Can I or is it not compatible,,,Please help..

I'm pretty sure the Asus N80VB is using the Crestline GM965/PM965 chipset which is Santa Rosa, support for CPU FSB up to 800 MT/s.

    The P8600 is a FSB 1066 Mt/s Penryn chip. I think it will require a newer chipset, Cantiga - GM45/PM45 - which is Montevina / Centrino 2

Use CPU-z to match the chipsets.

If your Asus was offered with that processor or higher then it will support it.
