    Hi,

    I own this http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10284098-1.html

    It has a T9600 @ 2.8ghz
    3gb RAM
Vista ultimate (32bit, soon to be 64bit)
    500gb + 320gb HD's - Ordered a 'just out' 128GB Corsair X128 which will be here tomorrow to replace the 320gb.
    1gb 260m GTX

Questions. (well one question for now)

I want to upgrade it to 4gb RAM (yes it's definately 3gb, not just vista 32bit showing it). Is there any advantage in using 1066mhz DDR2 instead of 800mhz if I'm looking at overclocking the CPU in vista (pll). The cost difference between PC2-6400 and PC2-8500 is minimal. Just wondered if the extra overhead would be of any benefit?

Hi sorry I cant really answer the memory question, as i am not familiar with their performance.

I just have a favor to ask, can you check the BIOS vers of your laptop?

THAT is an awesome looking lappie! As far as the memory goes, 1066 will be a bit faster, but then you might not be able to overclock as far if you were planning on it.

well I really don't know if the 1066 will really help you since your CPU is at 2.8 already. (my W90 is running the DDR2-800 the Q9000 can only run at 361 , any faster (which is like close to 400 ) will freeze. But I know the Q9000 can make it but the memory can't .......

    Hi,

Haven't really had time to play with it yet, but.. Idle temps seem to be low 60's and about 15 minutes into Left4Dead were high 70's. Will test this further and start overclocking after I reinstall Windows on my new Corsair Xtreme 128gb SSD tomorrow.

Regarding the RAM, I am to assume:- If I want to OC the CPU at all I'm better off with DDR2 800mhz, but if I want to keep it at 2.8ghz then 1066mhz will be ever so slightly quicker?. If someone could give me some more pointers on this, it would be greatly appreciated!, I will buy the RAM that will ultimately give me the best performance either way.

Hmnn I think the 3GB ram thing is really lame. Same as the different sizes hard drives.

I quite like this one

Yeah, they could have put 4gb in there. It must have been because of the Windows ultimate 32bit OS though.

Not too worried about the HDD's though as I'm now a lover of SSD :D

Think I'm just going to order 4gb of OCZ DDR2 800mhz.

Overclocked to 3178mhz on the CPU.

Gained an extra 500 3d06 marks, now hit 11,000 on stock drivers / standard 500mhz GPU core etc.

Will play more tomorrow evening when I get all this bloatware off with a new install.
