What's the better graphics card to run underclocked on the A8J? The ATI or GeForce? What kind of battery times should I expect?

No. I'm thinking about getting the A8J. As far as I know there's one with an ATI card and another A8J with a GeForce card.

    I dont know.
All I can say is the 7700 does not greatly improve battery life when its set to its lowest setting.

Radeon X1700, because of its architecture, will be the more energy efficient card. Geforce 7700 is a behemoth, but it sacrifices low energy usage for raw power.

I'd assume undervolting would produce proportional results.

Ya it only stands to reason. You have 8 pipeline card with 256 mb ram it should use less power.

It should also use even less when its set to its lowest setting.

It only stands to reason but I havent seen anything to back this up.

Would be nice if people who underclocked them came here and reported their battery times...

What's the difference? Is doing it manually cumbersome or something?

I'd probably have it underclocked most of the time and switch whenever needed...

Err, both of the cards automatically underclock when in 2D. For example my 7700go goes automatically to core 100MHz and mem 260MHz, although I underclocked it even further down to 80 core and 180 mem. And I have overclocked it in 3D mode to 520 core and 960 mem.

And BTW, in Vista you are not yet able to over/underclock your card.
