Just bought my first Asus--a N61JQ-B1. Seems like the price, less than $1100 can't be beat for a quad core 740qm, and I've noticed the good reliability ratings. The only thing I'd get that it doesn't have is a back-lit keyboard, but I'll live without the eye candy, and with my touch typing abilities. (Too bad it's backordered.) But I'm wondering if there is any upgrade path to an onsite warranty. I hope their reputation for reliability means I won't need it--unlike the Dells in my life--but I do like it when the technician comes to my house. (There was a Toshiba in my past where I had to wait six weeks for a repair: "We're waiting for the parts to arrive from Japan.")

I have had Dell Laptops for over 10 years and have had onsite warranty with all of them.

I love the onsite option. If your laptop is not completely down because of a major hardware problem, it will be when you have to do without it because you are shipping back and forth.

Dell has also dispatched onsite tech (they subcontract with repair companies) ultra fast. I have read alot of horror stories of turn around when people have mailed their Asus laptops in.

Plus I don't have to worry about taking my hard drive(s) out of the laptop when I ship it in. I can also make sure they are putting like parts in for like while they work on it.

The onsite warranty is worth it in my opinion.

I couldn't believe it when Asus gave us the onsite warranty option just recently and then took it away because it was only for schools, government customers. Dell, Toshiba, etc. has had onsite warranty option for years, Asus is really behind the times.

Usually when a company takes extremely long to fix a laptop, I QQ up a storm and get it back in half the time quoted :p It's all about demanding the 'Case Managers', sending e-mail to executives/president and harassing them like telemarketers :p This attitude hasn't failed me once! Don't take sh** from companies! :)

Being that there is not alot of action in this thread I am going to assume there must not be alot of demand for onsite warranties with Asus products?

Being in IT for a LONG time I would have thought this would be more in demand. My family, friends, and I have all used our extended warranties on our PCs and I have LOVED the onsite warranty option since I moved to DELL in 2000.

I LOVE not having not mail it out and be without it unless the motherboard is COMPLETELY down.

Does anyone know what in the heck is going on with Asus and its onsite warranties? It was offered, but is now only for schools and such... what gives? What happened to the regular consumer?

This is honestly almost a deal breaker for me and some of my family on this G73 I/they REALLY want.
