I'm shopping for a new laptop and am starting to get kind of confused.

I'm looking at the following four laptops
    N81 VG-X2A
    N61 Vg-A1
    F50 SF-A1
    N51 Vn-X1A

So they all come with Vista Premium I believe. A lot of the comments seem to be mad about a 32 bit OS instead of 64. So I'm assuming 64 bit is better.

I am pretty sure I will qualify for a Windows 7 upgrade. Do I have to wait until I get my laptop to send in for Windows 7? Is it even out yet? Do I just register or something and get it?

So is there Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit? Can I specify which one I want? And how do I know if each of those laptops works with 32 or 64? It doesn't seem to specify everywhere. I'd really like 64 bit as it seems to be better, and can take full advantage of the 4gb of ram. Help!

32 bit cannot access the last 1GB of 4GB of memory if its installed, thus alot of people feel cheated out of that last 1GB of memory on a 32bit OS. and if you buy a system with a 32bit OS, you are stuck with 32bit when getting the free upgrade. you are only allowed to upgrade to the same version in win7. and yes you need to wait for the laptop- you need the serial number off of it.

So they all come with 32 bit vista, so 64 bit Windows 7 is impossible?

its not impossible, you can buy 64bit. but you will not be getting 64bit win7 from the free upgrade program.

The key issued with your windows 7 upgrade will work on both a 64 bit disk and a 32 bit disk. The key is only edition specific.

honestly? most users dont use that much RAM... so if you don't *know* if you need it, you probably dont.
btw - if you are considering the n81 - consider this one that just popped up a couple of days ago, as far as i can tell, its cheaper and faster.... (the processor is just abit warmer, and the batt. life is shorter than the n81 you were looking at, but the n81 didn't have good battery life to begin with so i assume u'll be plugged in most of the time.)
