Hey everyone, sorry to keep bugging everyone with questions, however while looking around some more at the GS1 I ran across the CS90. Anyone own one? What's your opinion? I am definately looking at them due to the fact that you can upgrade absoluetely everything in them, but the package as a whole looks kind of bland and that huge rack of fans on the back, I'm not so sure about. So what's your thought. I am interested in them, but it kind of scares me not being able to see on in person. Thanks For your time.

I think the looks are kind of nice. Then again I'm the one that hates the stupid flashing lights on the G1.

Not absolutely everything can be upgraded. Rather, in addition to the usual RAM, HDD, and WLAN modules you can upgrade CPU and GPU. GPU from a limited selection, of course.

You should be careful about the compatibility issues. For instance the C90 is very picky about RAM. You will find a lot of information about these things in the C90 threads around this forum.

C90 is a great choice if you like to tinker however, many people have made mods for the C90 including making ventilation holes in the bottom door for the gpu (vicious mod) and making the fans in the back activate via a switch (zigg0 fan mod). I'm sure there are others who are also planning and/or creating something as we speak.

I'm not a power gamer, but not just an "average" user either. Somewhere in the middle. I've had my c90s for a couple of weeks, and have been happy with it. I was worried after ordering it that it would be too hot for casual use. My fiance likes to lie in bed with hers and surf the web, read email, etc before going to sleep, and I got jealous of that with my old 12 lb laptop. I was worried the c90s would be too hot, but I've been able to use in bed just fine (albeit with the fan pointing to the space between the legs). The bottom does get really hot. The palmrest gets warm, even hot, but not as hot as I was expecting from what I'd read.

My other concern is that the upgradeability won't be all that it is cracked up to be, as we're at the mercy of components being released that the c90s supports. It looks like a decent video card is in the pipeline, but beyond that who knows.

I got mine from GenTech, and it has been a solid performer so far. I did get a boot into safe mode once on battery power, but that appears to be an isolated incident (I hope).

i have mine since september last year (2007), and if i were to buy a laptop today, this one is what i would have bought again. It gives the processing power i want, together with the cheap price. Im very glad this baby got out when i needed to buy a notebook, i spent 2 weeks trying to figure out what was the best choice, and i have reached the conclusion that C90s would be it.

Never had RAM problems, i have 2 transcend modules, the heat has never bothered me, you only get unconfortable if the room your are at is already very hot.
My keyboard has a big Enter key, like desktop keyboards, but there may be variations this one is just perfect for me, im a strong Enter key typer. The real time overclock feature is just an amazing one....i usually convert batch pictures in photoshop and you can really see the big difference with the CPU overclocked.

I still treat him nicely everyday :)

I love mine. Granted it can be loud and is power hungry. It's definitely the muscle car of laptops. Great performance but the fans can be loud(in OC mode anyway) and battery life is not good (1 and 1/2 hours on mine). For my needs of gaming and work laptop this works great. If you need it to last long on battery, then you may want to look elsewhere.

Also, if you built a PC then this is just as fun and easier. All you have to do is pop everything in and load the os/drivers.

good notebook, good value, not something you want to build your self. get one with a good warranty. not that it breaks but its been known to have issues and compatibility. get one from a good dealer
