Hey all, I just got a quick question regarding the optical drive options for the C90S. What options do Asus offer us for the optical drives? And what difference is there between the DVD combo dual layer and the DVD Super Multi drive?
Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

One is dual layer, the other is not.
The C90 is supposed to have an option for blueray and hd-dvd aswell.
I personally would like the dual layer because I dont have one for my desktop and there have been a few ocasions where I have a single file too large to fit on a regular dvd so I cant back it up.
Bluray would be nice ^^ A single disk holding 25gb for the small ones and 50gb for the big ones, but the price is harsh. 25$ for the small 50$ for the large for a single disk!!! If you have ever burned a coaster before when you tried to make a dvd, it sucks but its no big deal. I can imagine burning a bad bluray disk...
This will be a big +1 for HD-DVD while it cant hold as much data they will be MUCH cheaper and also due to the lower data density will have less failures when you try to burn them. (also more scratch resistant ^^) -
So which is the standard option/most popular and which one is more faster, greater option between DVD Combo and DVD SUper-Multi?

I cant remember off hand the speed, they are similar I belive if not equal when reading the same format (ie, single layer) but dual layer burning/reading is probably slower, but thats not a big deal since the other cant even do it.
If you want to save a few $ then get the standard super multi, if you want abit more flexablity with the ability to read or burn dual layer disk pay the extra $ for that one.
If the price is right I may opt for the hd-dvd drive, but it has to be sub 200$ It MAY even be a bluray/hddvd drive that does both.... if thats the case I would have to think about it some more to consider how much I would pay. -

Your welcome. Look around for a page that gives the speed ratings as an "X" value and you can compare them.
I saw one or two sites that did this, probem is most sites dont give the speeds they just list the type.
Only time you will really use them to there limits on speed anyways is when you are installing somthing from a disk and thats not too often.
Games are loaded from your hdd even if its a game that requires the disk, playing music files or videos from the disk wont come close to the max read speed so thats not a problem. When burning I recomend you never burn at max speed. I usually use 6x for dvds. So you shouldnt burn at max speeds eather. When you break it all down like that you see the speed isnt super important anymore and the functions/abilities are more important.
I defnitly want dual layer myself. I have nearly 3 cases full of dvds of backed up movies/files and that could have been cut in half with a dual layer drive.
