I'm planning to (maybe) order a the N71JQ-A1 from XoticPC, mainly because it comes with the full 2 year Asus warranty and the second HDD w/ connection.

It also comes with bluray, which I want to downgrade to DVD only to save $96, using the customization option on XoticPC's website.

If I do this, will my warranty through Asus still be intact? If I had to send it to them and it had the DVD optical drive in it, would they complain about it and deny my warranty coverage? Obviously they wouldn't cover the optical drive, that's fine with me..

All XoticPC modifications are supported by asus, including the DVD drive.

So the warranty wouldn't be through XoticPC, it would still be through Asus?

I had read that things having XoticPC change the TP or CPU would void the Asus warranty and I'd have to go through XoticPC for their warranty.. am I mistaken? I know this is more extreme than an optical drive, just curious is all.

    EDIT: From XoticPC's Warranty Page:

So the optical drive would have the 1 year warranty through XoticPC, but the rest of it would be through Asus?

Sorry, I thought I read the entire FAQ but I missed it:

I'll just pay for the bluray drive, I probably would have added one 6-8 months down the road anyway, and at about the same price tag :)
