Since the 8600m GT isn't really capable of driving a game at 1680x1050...I find myself playing a lot of games at 1280x800 & 1440x900. Single player games I have no problem with at 1680x1050...but in multiplayer I need 100+ FPS to play comfortably. I play CoD 4 a lot...multiplayer at 1280x800, it looks terrible stretched across this screen. I was wondering if its remotely possible to transplant a 15.4" WXGA screen? Possibly from a G1S...maybe?

Uh... you mean it looks bad because of the fuzziness? Or is the aspect ratio bad? The second could be fixed with driver options / and any new game should offer non-4:3 resolutions.

The first (fuzziness due to nonnative resolution), I never really noticed in games... being full of continuous images and such... I only notice it in texts.

My Asus C90s came originally with a 15.4" WXGA, i got kind of sad because i was hoping for bigger workspace, but it was only later that i realise. And im not much of a player, if you were my neighbour i probably would exchange mine with yours

If you overclock the c90 can handle most games at 1680 x 1050 pretty well. Though I do not understand why you need over 100 fps.

over 100fps on a laptop... sorry not gonna happen.

as long as you have a resolution set thats the same aspect (16:10) it will look fine.

1280x800 gets stretched across a 1680x1050 screen and it just doesn't look all to good. Why do I need 100fps or more? Smoothness of gameplay and frame drops in MP based games are ridiculous. I'd have to rather say my bare minimum is more like 60 ~ 80fps, and in CoD4 with my 8600m GT overclocked, 1280x800 and "lower" settings I can achieve that easily. Hell...CSS runs 100+fps nearly constant.

It is mathematically impossible for 1280x800 to get stretched across a 1680x1050, because:

    800/1280 = 1050/1680 = 0.625

    ...
    :)

You can stretch anything lower than 1680x1050 across a 1680x1050...granted it doesn't look correct anymore but it still does work. It's like running 1280x800 on a 1680x1050 native res monitor...it just looks blurry.

Right, so it's a problem of blurriness not one of aspect ratio.

As I said, bluriness doesn't disturb me at all in games... for me it's nearly impossible to see it unless the res. is really low like 800x600. I don't know why it affects you so much -- but it's a subjective thing, of course.

So set a 16:9 aspected resolution on a 16:10 aspected screen, and it will look better? How does that work lol?

Even on a desktop, most newest games would requiere a Tri-SLI 8800GTX in 1680x1050.

I can understand 40-60FPS but 100? I thought the human eye only saw 29.95 at 60hz

The general misconception is that your eyes can only see 30fps. This isn't true...I can easily tell the difference up to the area of 80 ~ 100fps. I require the smoothness of the gameplay to be most honest. Take Call of Duty 4 for example. I can run 1280x800 with all high settings, 0xAA (doesn't matter to me in multiplayer), and 4/8xAF and average playable FPS, between 40 ~ 60 on a decent sized server. This is marginly playable...turn Shadows and Specular off...which is pretty much low, and you get much higher FPS, 80 ~ 140 pending the map/server. Now to throw something else out there, in single player games the smoothness isn't an issue. I can comfortably play CoD4 @ 1680x1050, all high, 8xAF, 15 ~ 40fps I can deal with. MP is different.

Looking on Asus's Store, for the C90S oddly enough, they have a 1280x800 screen. WXGA. $350.

Well, I found the part number for the ASUS c90s and it says it support 1600x1050.

the lcd panel model is from Chi Mei, No. N154Z1 -L02 Rev. C1 and retail price is $425...here is the link for the store I found that price, maybe it could be found for a cheaper price:

Trained eye can spot difference between 30,60 and 100 fps.

For example i can see right away if game runs on low(30) mid(60) or high(100) fps. All those year of first person shooter have not gone waste!

But any how still i say 100 fps is not good if it doesn't stay there 99% of time.
Biggest lag comes from fps dropping fast from high to low.
So i for example play most multiplayer fps games fps capped to something like 40-60fps so i don't get any fps drops.

So solid fps is the key not amount of it!
But of course more fps is better since then you have faster refreshing picture is better(and this is capped by your monitor refresh rate as well your reflexes and so on rather than your fps only) Good rule of thumb is to keep fps close to your monitor refresh rate
