Just curious on your thoughts of both places. One is nearly $50 cheaper for the G1S, however customer service is more important to me (in terms of calling them for help/questions, etc). Any input would be great.
Thanks all!

GenTechPC ( www.1toppc.com), has worked well for me and i am extremely pleased with them, ask Ken Lee to handle your order
-
Gentech.
-
I ordered from Gentech, Ken was extremely nice and helpful throughout the entire process, I recommend them.
-
I ordered my laptop from GenTech, as did two of my friends. All three of us were/are very satisfied.
-
maybe you could try a price match at gentech? I tryed it with milestonepc and they accepted
I should purchasse one next week

Excaliber is a drop shipper, which means they don't do much in the way of customer service or warrantying. GenTech is a full service reseller and tech support services and QC and such are added into the price (which accounts for the 50ish dollars?)
If customer service is important, then go with GenTech. -
Thanks all. I was leaning more towards Gentech even though they are more expensive. I did ask for a price match and they said no.
Sounds like most of you called in your orders as opposed to online. Any reason for doing so?
Thanks -

I did mine online, because it was faster, but a lot of people like the personal experience of talking to someone, and being able to ask questions as they decide on parts.

excaliber is not 100% drop shipper. they also have inventory but mainly to avoid sales tax rule. You can not drop ship where the distributor has a warehouse.

They do happen to be back-ordered on almost every notebook though =P

Excaliber is pretty back-ordered
And I didn't mean to attack them, but I always feel like they focus on the components in-house more than the systems, and I didn't mean to imply that drop-shipping is a bad thing, but I do feel like customer service would be better at a shop that specialises in selling notebook systems specifically.
Also, welcome to the forums Excaliber! -

excaliber..... you mean to tell everyone here you dont drop ship asus laptops? comon now. you advertise on your own site warehouse locations from tech data, asi, and you most likely buy from wintec who is local to you. If you didnt drop ship most of your products then you wouldnt have to rely on your distributors datafeed and you would be able to offer some kind of customization. your own website advertises it self you are a drop shipper. This is a forum not a tv broadcast. loosen up. tell the truth. come back often and act more like a person instead of a robot. I unlike most people here know your business and know how atleast the asus part of it is done. Try not to bull**** anyone here, its not good for you

We hear you, and the truth is that we just don't drop ship any Asus notebooks as told earlier. That's all we need to clarify. -

ye?
and if i can get you your own order number that had a blind drop ship from an undisclosed fremont location? what would you say to that? if you dont do blind drop shipping why are you using warehouse inventory for all your distis? why do you use ingenuity platform which is apecializing in datafeeds from techdata and blind order fullfillment? my friend. i know you like i know the rest of our competitors. nothing wrong with blind drop shipping. The only thing wrong with it is that your inventory is not live and it may not be acurate. It is nice to be located in fremont i must say. Few minutes away from asus and all major distis. Pehaps in the future we will offer drop shipping as well. -
With all do respect, and remember I said with all do respect. It seems to me this Thread should be called "gentech or btoTECH". I'm no genius but when I order a laptop and the price/Time changes becasue of the location it's coming from Thats drop shipment, End of discussion. And like Geared stated, it's not a big deal, but what is a big deal is Misrepresentation of your products. Just my 2 coppers

Well, also, Eddie, if you want to say that even though the product was inventoried before it was shipped, that makes them a drop shipper, then you and every reseller that took preorders drop-shipped the C90. So unless you are willing to admit to being the same as ExPC, then maybe you should take that back.
-
Exactly. BTW I ordered my C90 only a few minutes after it said "available" on excaliberpc.com. They called me the next day and said it was SHIPPED. Meaning they actually waited until they had them in their hands and I appreciate that. I got it the next day. Thanks excaliberpc. I was going to order from btotech but that whole forum preorder thing was...very unprofessional to say the least.
Also, even though my unit was defective, they were very coorperative and approved my RMA within a matter of one day. The same person called me several times to get more info and help out. I was very suprised and thankful. -

you do drop ship asus product, you have drop shipped asus product. i have no doubt about it. whether you drop ship some or many you are still advertising locations of your major distributors, it is even advertised on your own website. ingenuity the website provider for you specializes in "remote order fulfillement", a nice name to call it but still is a valuable assett to drop shippers. The invenotory you are avertising is not your inventory. it is the inventory of your distributor. The only thing i can commend you on is picking the right platform. Ingenuity got it going on. In the near future we may select them for our own purpose when we start specializing in everything
Alex
our c90s preorder turned unpaid after 2 delayes. refunded all orderes on june 20th or so. most of the same people came back again to replace their order once we got them in stock and not before. having a paid preorder was a mistake. it was my first and the last. in the past we have always held unpaid preorders via our own forum. Our stock is our stock not some disti stock. What we advertise in stock is sitting about 30 feet away from me on dusty white shelves. I wish i could say we are a drop shipper. I really do. Drop shipping would allow us to offer free shipping on all products not just some and lower prices as well as gain sales and free up valuable storage room of which i have very little. It is an extremely easy business to get into for an established company provided your website is able to proccess disti datafeed. It is one project we are working on now. We are actively trying to expand into the drop shipping business however we will still maintain our current business model as it is now. -
Come on everybody don keep this argument up it looks bad for both of you (no it doesnt matter who started it)
-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
i didnt say anything bad at all. All i said was there is nothing wrong with drop shipping if you can manage the business right. most drop shipper suck. Excaliber is obviously doing a very good job of it. i dont knwo why he is fighting it. I wouldnt fight it. i would be proud of it if i did a fine job of it

What I realy like is that you ship internationaly.
I m from EU/Slovenia and I would like to know if paying with Maestro card is possible or do you suggest some other paying method ?
Also I would like to know if communication during order process canbe done completly by e-mailing, is that OK for you ? Phone calls to distant areas are expensive...for me atleast.
I m thinking of buying c90s from you expc
parts (disk proc ram wireless) are sold separately, so
it would be great if you could offer options like building the components into c90s for me ?
also is it possible to have an option NOT buying an OS...or at least having Linux OS instead ?
just asking
Kind regards,

Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum and I ordered a c90s, hdd, cpu etc... from EXcaliberPC and I must say that I am very pleased with their customer service. They have been more than helpful with answering questions about import tax/customs (I live in Spain) and also technical related stuff about the chipset, overclocking etc... . I took the "express processing" option. On their website it says
Quote:"Order processing usually occurs within one business day. That includes charging the customer's credit card, verification of addresses, internal stock transfer, packing, and shipping. If parts are coming from non-local warehouses processing can take a few more days. If you must have the order shipped out the same day please select the "Express Processing" option."
They have an internal stock (no drop shipping) and that includes the Asus c90s notebook. However they also have "non-local warehouses" and I don't know if that includes other distributors ie drop shipping.
I checked my account on their website for an order update every two hours or so and sure enough later that day I could see the serial numbers and MAC addresses of the products I ordered. However, my order didn't leave the same day so I called them up the day after and they told me to hang on a second while somebody would check their warehouse to see what was going on. A few minutes later they said the package wasn't ready on time yesterday for the pick-up but everything is prepared now and it will definitely be going out today. I paid 10$ for the "express processing" but they offered me a refund or a discount on future products which I think is very fair.
I don't think a drop-ship company would offer a "same day express processing" option. When you are ordering that many different parts and they are leaving the company in the same package than they must have an internal stock in order to sent it out the same day.
Somebody even checked my package for all the parts when I called them and they confirmed everything I asked them. I am no expert but I don't think that is drop-shipping.
From my experience I can only recommend EXcaliberPC.
Sorry for the long post but I just had to say something because I actually dealt with EXcaliberPC. -

In any case, there is a difference between saying that they are a drop-shipper (which many people feel can be very scammy) and saying that they offer drop-shipping, which allows them to have a wider variety of product options without sacrificing their warehouse space. Like I said before, Excaliber sells tons of stuff, some of it is laptops. How could he possibly drop-ship the C90 right after it came out? (I just realised that)
Asus Fremont is not a distro, nor is there a distro (to my knowledge) that recieves product until after the launch period. So while they may drop-ship some of the various and sundry electronic parts they sell, saying that they do that with everything is unfair. You admitted yourself that they are not 100 percent drop-shippers, but I suppose now that it comes to light that the actual percentage that is drop-shipped is lower than you expected...you wanna go back on that?
this isn't about insulting drop-shipping, it is about calling another reseller a liar, IN PUBLIC, that we are taking offense to. If this bothered you why not take it up over PM?
Anyway, you guys are both good at what you do, and for someone who doesn't like to fight over sales you have defamed two other resellers (who happen to be much larger than you are.) And honestly, I don't think that any of the major companies here need to stoop so low as to create accounts to give themselves good reviews, since that IS what you were implying, was it not?
With that said, this thread needs to be closed. -

Come again? i belive you brought it up here "excaliber is a drop shipper". Larger then who? do you happen to know our yearly sales vs excaliber and gentech? Do you happen to know ours? please enlighten me then... By volume we repair more asus product in and out of warranty then both above mentioned resellers. By the same token you should not assume the size of anyones gross sales just because you bought from gentech. Between my self and ken in terms of sheer product sales we are pretty even. Exacliber happens to sell everything. Dont assume. I happen to stay behind my claim that excaliber is a drop shipper. to what degree? who cares. The inventory on their website is mostly not in their own inventory and that is a fact. -

Wintec is down the block from asus. So is synnex. they have every day pickup and will call. I do it all the time xept i cant pick up, i am in NY. Have to get it shipped or drop shipped if i was in that business but i am not as 95% of our orders are customized in some way

I think the guy that opened this Thread under the name "Order from Gentech or EXcaliber" is definitely not buying anything from BTOtech or EXcaliber in the near future and if you keep this up geared2play than he and propably some other people who read this won't even buy something from you in the next life. I for one wouldn't want to have to deal with a company that employs guys with a temper like yours. You've made your point and if you still want to continue than please open another thread.
I still have lots of respect about your previous posts in other threats and I don't want to sound insulting but I really think this is going to far. -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
real people have real tempers you know?
I can be fake and nice and then tell you to go call someone who cares when your notebook breaks or i can be mean have a temper but stand behind the product we sell. Its a hit or miss. Some people would rather have a smiling face then a lending hand.
It only went far when spmeone (alex) acused me of bashing. I did no such thing. I pointed out the obvious (actually alex pointed it out I only confirmed it). Its obvious excaliber is advetising remote inventory. I have no doubt they drop ship as well. Like i said above there is nothing wrong with it. I hope people still order from us because we will be practicing the same in the very near future however i will not deny it if the question comes up. -

Maybe it's all that time waiting for my laptop that's just killing me.
I am still sure people will still buy stuff from you because you didn't just
start swearing and cursing away at people.

I believe a couple of the resellers in this thread could have handled their dispute privately via PM, not on a public discussion forum.
-
All of them are just fine. But Excaliberpc was the only one that solved my trouble. However, if you dont have any idea how put your laptop toguther, just go by any the other than Excaliber pc (they dont assmble the laptop for you)
Anyway, I think Gentech, Geared2play, & Excaliberpc are really nice people and very helpful and all of them have good support.
Btw, I read the whole thread and it became an open discussion so if I could I would buy from any of thiese three companies: Gentech, they were really nice and even refund me when they could not solve the fact Im an international customer with a credit card & paypal; Geared2play, nice as well but the same trouble, international customer so they couldnt do anything for me. Finally, excaliberpc, little trouble with the international customer policy but indeed they listen to suggestions (which for me this is really important) so they add a sticky in their forum that will save the pain I have in the begining for being an international customer with a credit card and they have been pretty helpful since day one. In few words, I have talked to these three companies and I have not complain but praise to each one and their support were pretty good -

we do accept cc from canada and the u.k. those are the only 2 countries we will take cc or paypal from for now. In the future we may add australia and some western european countries. you have to understand that the liability to ship overseas is much greater then in the states. one fine example. 2 weeks ago we had a chargeback that we actually won from united kingdom, customer claimed that he paid us, got the box and all inside was broken. He never contacted us. filed chageback 3 weeks after receipt. lost his case and still never contacted us. I am pretty sure he was just trying to get a free laptop. if he actually filed a non receipt claim we have proof of delivery but i dont know if it would have turned out favorably. Besides uk and cananda for now we dont have any seller protection. i would assume the same for most vendors. any dishonest person can and probably win a chargeback from an unapproved country. -
i would like to say that besides i still haven´t bought my asus laptop on excaliber, i will do it very soon i hope, i like this company very much and one of the reasons is that they do international shippment, they accept international credit card and they have one great customer forum!
and are you jealous bto? why can not new user like one store that´s not your uh? who is starting the fight now?
sorry for that, but i really want that´s a bad thing not believing someone!
and i do now u, i even had email you guys about payment oppitions and international orders, so i can annalyse both sides! -
