You might want a 64bit OS in order to fully use all 4GB of ram.

I hear you strom. Check out anandtech.com on vista 64 bit guide. 64 Bit too much trouble right now bro. I use sh**t load of different softwares and dont wana put up with bottlenecks and compatibility issues. i will wait perhaps till December that is when Service pack 1 for Vista is due out. I am gully aware of the 4gb rams potential with 64 bit Vista.
My background is with computer sciences. I can tell you with a complete money back guarantee when it comes to system level designing (coding of applications or OS) that no matter what operating system one use RAM is important so is Level 1 and Level 2 Cache.
Most important thing in your comp RAM and CPU Cache.
Most expensive component with respect to size and performance is again CPU Cache.

I just hope i can play quake4, C&C3, UT3 and Crysis....it would be wonderful if sitting on a trans Atlantic flight of over 18 hours sometimes that i can utilize that Air plane adapter. I can picture my self playing Tiberium wars on Lufthansa or Delta as the Moron next to me watch Spider man 3 on his 6 inch 320*240 Seat monitor Lmao :p :p

Wow! expensive laptop! But worth the money!

Hope you are flying business or first class! That monster wont fit an a economy class try table. Does economy class have outlets to power laptops? or is that business class only too?

Ahh Wave, i see your location Frankfurt! Thats why the seating and Lufthansa caught your eye :)
No, economy class of the current Boeing 777s don't offer power outlets at the seats same case with Emirates. Almost all Business classes do. I heard new Airbus A 300 should have it even in economy.
I usually get up and ask the hostess if i can charge it near their food cabins. Would be scary though to leave it there getting charged as they serve Coffee huh!

Yes I have had my share of cramped Lufthansa flights. Been lucky enough to get upgraded to business class most of the time. How do you use a 17" laptop in an economy class seat?

Have you ever tried chargeing your laptop in the bathroom? In some airplane bathrooms they have a poweroutlet for electronic shavers. Works for laptops too but you cant stay in there too long.

    2 questions.

    A) Why not get 3GB (The "magic number") Then get the 4GB when you are ready to switch to x64?

    B) HDDs are almost as fast as Turbo Memory...also it isn't really supported OS side, what were your reasons for choosing that?

Congrats though, and put up a review I know people are waiting on one!!

As an aside to the notebook discussion: if you're flying and are wondering about access to power for your laptops you should check out http://seatguru.com.

This is a very cool (free) website where you select your airline and what model of plane you'll be flying on and it will show you the seat layout. In particular it shows you which rows have power adapters on them. I've been making a point of checking this for the last few flights I've been on and it makes it easy to book a seat with power. It's fairly common for the planes to have only some of the rows with power adapters on them but most planes have at least a few.

Please read the review below. Those of you who already know Anandtech.com fine those who don't, should know about them :) one of the most reputed and oldest Deep Tech review sites online.
    http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3009

Intel introduced a new turbo memory for prefetching data from hard disk and assisting the RAM. Sony and HP have taken out the feature from their notebooks blaming Microsoft and Vista for lacking the capability to make use of Turbo Memory.
2 features in VISTA Ready Boost and Ready Drive
If you read the article linked above you will see that once turbo memory works it can save upto 30 mintues of battery power. As of now it is not fully working the way its supposed to. Hopefully with Service Pack one in December they will implement a better prefetching algorithm.

Why not the magic number 3. I do not believe despite looking at the bench marks that 3 GB is the best option. It might be for games but for Adobe, 3d studio max and other Apps i dont think that 4 GB will casue bottle necks. As you know Alex that getting the right paired RAM is important both in desktops and Laptops. I would rather get it now than later. Cause there is a good chance i will be wondering in the future what kinda best compatible ram i need. I do plan on using the Vista 64 bit down the road one day. As of now Vista 64 performance is slower than 32 bit.
Thanks for posting the online travel link. Pretty cool site.
Neo Mojo i just gave you a little idea on the Turbo Memory please read the article if you are interested in knowing more.

Alexi would love to do a detailed review once i get it. But i might have to appologize in advance bro. I am down here in the middle of a desert at an APO location. If at home in Georgia i would have done a review with a 21 inch Viewsonic 720P HD LCD for games. Up over here dude don't get much time from my assigned duties so...:-( i will try firing up Solitaire and tell you what kinda frame rate i am getting haha. i still gota order quiet a few games.

I heard from one of my friends who works for Nvidia "Crysis and UT 3 both waited on DirectX 10, quad core CPU and 64bit OS support". Major reasons for UT 3's delay is directx10. Their wait on Directx10 is over but quad core and 64 bit OS will still take its sweet time to get in every house hold.
