Think that I will even have to buy Core Duo...if I get it in like August? Or can i buy SOLELY Merom/Core Duo 2? That would save a lot of cash if i didnt have to (well i know i dont HAVE to) upgrade

Also, heard the Z96j has a beautiful glossy screen somewhere on these forums. thats really good news :) Anyone verify that?

If i'm not mistaken, august is only the paper release of merom. I don't think it'll actually be available in mainstream notebooks or resellers until a couple months after that.

As has been said before in this forum, you really don't need Merom until a stable and secure version of Vista is available from microsoft and this probably won't happen until well into next year. Regular Core Duo should handle just about anything the mainstream user can throw at it.

I am hoping that i can get a decent Merom processor in the future for 200-300USD.

Several people have gotten meroms already and have noticed quite a speed boost. It is much more than just attaching 64 bit to the chip. If I were you I would wait.

It has a larger cache for one, but I concur with SaferSephiroth, there's really no need to upgrade right now.

    Wait till next year.
