Recently my Asus W7S laptop suffered its second graphics chip failure. Last time was about 14 months ago, and back then Asus fixed it by swapping out the motherboard and installing a new one (incidentally, the W7S g motherboard which uses the 9300M G chip instead of the 8400M G found in the W7S). Unfortunately my I am now out of warranty by a few months.

Has anyone been able to get an out-of-warranty repair covered by Asus due to the known overheating issues of the 8x00M/9x00M chips? Or for people who have paid to repair their out-of-warranty notebooks, what's the typical cost of a motherboard swap?

Somehow I have a feeling it makes more financial sense to buy an entirely new laptop than to pay for repairs. :(
