I'm considering purchasing a G51VX-X1A (or maybe the G51J-A1), but I've read some things about some overheating issues with it. Now the notebook I currently have which is about 4 years old has had some massive overheating problems which crippled it from the beginning. I want to make sure I don't have those problems again, because it is really frustrating.
Thanks for your help.

i have the G51-RX05, which is thermally the same as those models. the graphic card does heat up, but it never has shut down on me, so i dont think you will have any problems. just read around on the forums and youll find that everyone else has the same results

In the long run the heat isn't going to help the longevity of your GPU any, but I have yet to see anyone suddenly have their GPU die on them.

The cooling could have been better, and there are things you can do to improve that, but I don't think the heating issue is as prominent as people make it out to be. It heats up more than most laptops, but it's not going to fry on you. I wouldn't be too concern. But if you are, again, there are mods you can do to reduce temperatures.

As forge said, i haven't seen any returns or problems directly related to the heat, but if you dont feel comfortable with hot runing laptop, then might aswell look elsewhere. -
I had a dead GPU in the G51, I think it was the memory which has fried. (and I only OC'd it for benchmarking, otherwise not)

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. Looks like most people haven't had any serious issues with it, and as long as that's the case hopefully I won't either.
Overheating an issue to consider when purchasing G51?
