    hi

ive got this problem using zoom player, playing divx, mkv etc.. where overlay video works just fine in windowed mode.
If i go to full screen or extend the window to cover the whole screen the video goes black.
returning to window mode will bring the video back. same goes with standard overlay.
If i change from overlay to VMR9 it will work but the playback is not smooth, windowed or full screen.
    same problem with VMR7.

this just started happening, i didnt upgrade the video driver because i have no probelm with the current ones.

    any suggestions?

    running on the asus Z96J

Did you try the vlc media player. i recommend it because it does not use direct show. Please reinstall your codecs. i recommend the KLM codec pack.

what codec pack are you currently using. I recommend the vista codec pack are shark007.net. Let me know if that works for you.

I have an X1700 and haven't really had any problems with Media Player Classic (I presume you're using that too since you mentioned VMR9 renderless).

Any CODEC packs that you recently installed? Or any applications that might have CODECs associated with them like WinDVD or Nero?

To use VMR modes, DirectX and your GPU drivers must be working correctly. If you're getting choppiness and things of that sort, it's usually because there is something not being handed off to the video card correctly or maybe something in an incompatible format.

    Things to check:
    1) find out which codec is being used to decode what you're watching (MPC has it under the Filters submenu when you bring up the context menu while watching something). If it's something foreign, you might want to try using the Options: External Filters under MPC to block that particular codec.

    2) check for any other program which might also trying to use a graphics surface/overlay at the same time (ie: TV cards, 3D applications, etc.). If you installed any program or widget recently which might be doing that at the same time, it might prevent you from going full-screen.

    3) reinstall DirectX. Download the installer or use the web one.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...56-C91A-4A8E-8BB8-9F20F1244A8E&displaylang=en

    4) try to reinstall your graphics drivers, or get newer ones (if they are on the ASUS site). They generally don't update the drivers on the ASUS site for the older models, but you can get the Mobility Catalysts from anywhere since they're not keyed to your system. Search on the forums, there is a way around the system check to get the Mobility Catalyst drivers.

As far as VLC, unless it's solved at #1 I don't think it would solve the problem. VLC tends to be relatively self-contained and good for not needing to install anything permanent on the system, but still depends on video drivers and DirectX to be working properly.

VLC generally works better in most cases, but I tend to stick with with MPC since I like the interface better.

    AlexF thanks for the info

    i solved the problem.
i found out that my object dock caused it.
i always had object dock and it never did that.
i figured that changing the zoom level on object dock to anything above 3.5 will not produce the problem with zoom player.
i do remember changing that some time ago to 3. And since then i never played any H264 video that has 1280 resolution.
Zoom player was on VMR the whole time and playing non H264 video is just fine.
Cant believe that was the problem the whole time...
