I have a G50VT, with a P8700 in it ( 2.53GHZ), running win7 64-bit final. I have been able to overclock it up to ~3GHZ, but have backed off to 2.875GHZ just to ensure stability .. and I have done this through Setfsb 2.2.111.83, pll: ICS9LPR604AGLF.
Ok, so I want to overvolt my processor. I have tried a few programs, with no success.
Using Rmclock 2.35, under the "profiles" section, selecting different "VID"s are limited to the voltage of 1.1625, which is the normal voltage that it runs at when at 2.53GHZ.
So Rmclock does not provide the option.
So I tried Crystalcpuid, under the Function menu -->Intel Enhanced Speedstep Control, and then with the dialog box and opens, clicking on "Enable Change Voltage", and then selecting from the "New Voltage" drop down list, I can select a voltage up to 1.613 volts, however it will not apply on any setting higher than 1.275v (Which is = to 1.163V because there is some bogus voltage offset going on between the setting, and the voltage applied.).
So,
1. CrystalCPUid has a weird offset; 1.275v(program setting)= 1.163v(actual), 1.263v=1.150v, 1.25v= 1.138v, 1.238=1.125v, 1.225v=1.113v, ..... 1.175v=1.063v
2. It will apply lower actual voltage levels, such as the ones listed in #1 above. But none above 1.275(program setting).
I want to be able to achieve > 1.163Volts, as either this is the limiting factor with my overclock, or my memory, although adjusting memory timings via memset did not improve stability.
I'm sure someone has figured out how to do this without a Socketmod?

If you are having issues with stability overclocking further it is most likely:
A) The RAM becoming unstable, it is also overclocked when you OC the CPU via FSB.
B)Northbridge overheating
I'd personally say its A, as that is what I Believe is keeping me from going above 3.1GHz stable.
In either case, Overvolting will not help you retain stability.
