Just today the audio in my ASUS w90 stopped working. The thing is that since I purchased my w90, i thought the audio was quite low for the 6 speakers including sub it packs. I thought it might be due to old drivers and when i checked the website the newest audio drivers were 02/09. My older ones were from late '08. My previous setup, a MBP 17", had about the same top end volume and i think it only had 2 speakes plus the SQ in the MBP was the same if not better.
So i installed the new drivers and now the audio does not work at all. I tried everything from videos, itunes and youtube but audio does not work anything. The only sound i get is when the computer just starts up and you hear that bell or w.e. it is along with the asus startup logo on screen. I tried uninstalling all of the audio drivers and restarting but no hope. When fully started, the computer recognizes no drivers are installed and installs them for me but the sound still does not work. Upon startup when my laptop recognizes no drivers are installed, and it says on the volume location, no drivers installed and item not working properly. Then once the drivers are installed it shows hardware is working properly now and on the volume icon it displays the volume number . Also before the computer use to recognize when a headphone was plugged/unplugged but now it does not recognize it nor play audio on it.
One last thing, i noticed in the control panel/hardware and sound/sound, there are 5 audio devices under playback and all of them say they are working. One of them has a green check mark and the green bars move according to the audio being played, although it produces no sound. I have no clue of what is going on and have not completely adjusted back to windows so please someone help me out. Thanks in advance

Interesting. Regardless of what your default audio device is, I'd figured it'd at least route your sound when you plugged in headphones.
If you haven't already, try uninstalling all audio drivers in Safe Mode. Then restart and try installing them again. Out of curiousity, what are the audio devices it lists?
Edit: Make sure when you uninstall the drivers, you select "Uninstall Driver Software", otherwise it'll leave the files it needs to automatically reload the faulty driver upon restart. -

Man i feel retarted. After looking at the attached pic, i realized the Realtek HD audio manager was somehow uninstalled. I found the drivers online(the site sucks so i searched around) and now the system is booming. I never realized you can change the audio settings from the Realket software. BTW anyone know the most optimized settings for loudest but crystal clear audio setup???
PLEASE HELP. W90 laptop audio not working..
