PROPortable's Holiday Mobile Giveaway - Vote for your favorite!

The contest deadline has passed and with its passing comes the fun part. Below are the top twelve images that we selected based on their meeting of the contest requirements. Now it's your job to select your favorite. Next Friday, January 26th, the first, second, and third prize winners will be determined by the total number of votes recieved. You may vote only once and to deter people from setting up new accounts to vote multiple times, the members account must have setup on or before 01/18/2006.

Or original plan was to select the top ten entries in three categories (composition, uniqueness, and humor). However, all were pretty unique and we didn't think more than 1 or 2 would really be picked out specifically for the other two categories. So, although you may take those categories into account while voting, you are only voting on one image. Simply pick whatever you feel is the best overall based on any of the three original three categories given. It doesn't need to be the most polished, but just who you think had the best idea. Today's random drawing for the Grand Prize of a custom Asus R2H UMPC was based on a total of 1,268 votes gathered from all entries from the start of the contest up until it's close last evening. This includes all photo entries (including those above), all plain text entries, and all automatic entries customers received for placing an order with us over the same period. Winners will be notified by email.

It was between the "Fill the Gap" and the cake one for me. I went with "Fill the Gap".

Oh, just a note... You're more than welcome to vote for yourself if you want to, but in the interest of keeping the voting fair, if you know who submitted one of the entries, please don't point it out. We don't want this becoming a popularity contest. In the interest of full disclosure, we're going to want to post the winners NBR handles (if members), when all is said and done as to give them the recognition they deserve.

 

Funny thing is, it's not my entry!

If I weren't too lazy, I would've submitted my S96J with Photoshopped wheels.

 

Didn't say it was... and actually know it isn't, but the comment did spur my comment. In fact, I should have mentioned this, but I didn't mean to stop people from stating which one they voted from (in fact, please, the more involved the whole process, the more fun it is). I just don't want someone saying "this is my entry, vote for me", or "this is so and so's entry, he's a jerk".

Just curious: what did Elizabeth Hsu's entry look like?

 

The random drawing was not based on based on a the photo entries. I believe her entry was from a purchase she placed in December. I don't know if she also did a photo entry, but I know if she did it wasn't picked for the above poll - although as the rules stated, technically the winner of the random drawing also could won the judged part, even though the odds aren't exactly in their favor.

 

WE need more people to participate in this ...

I liked Fill The Gap. No real comment or compliment on it, its just very appealing.

I have a really good idea for a image for the contest, but I couldn't get the photo in time. I'll remember to do that next year.

 

Some of the images obviously had some text that I then used to describe them in the poll (just so we can make sure people don't accidently vote for the wrong one). Anyway, I'm glad I came up with names for the rest of them because it's much easier for everyone to comment on them..

As for the cake, it was not sent to me, however, for future notice - that would have been a great way to butter me up. I hope someone enjoyed eating an edible UMPC.

Just what I was hoping for.... some sense of community from members we don't usually see around here.

 

I like Fill the Gap. Design is good, idea is good. The others are just not something you'd find in notebook advertising, or just not visible enough.

 

Quick Note:

At this time, four (4) votes will be removed from #9 "At the track", as they were made by members that registered after 1/18 (one of the rules on the first page).

Also, it's interesting to note the following. All four were registered today (01/20), have zero posts, were all placed votes within an awfully short period of time, and are all coming from the same IP address:

I have no intention at this time of disqualifying any entry, but the IP address of the member names above is very much within the same range of that of the creator of the image.... which just so happens to be even easier to spot when they go ahead and vote for themselves. I'm not sure if friends within a college computer lab placed these votes, but it certainly isn't simply coincidental.

 

Well, through day one, there's been a 40+ voter turnout... That's not too bad. Good luck to everyone.... six more days left.

 

I voted for #5, I am student, it appeals to me, the pencil, the shading, and that's exactly how I sit and type on my laptop. LOL

I was very impressed with the R2H on the cake, i'm not sure if that was scanned, or screen printed onto the icing or something, but I would love to eat it if possible.

I'm sorry, but we're not changing votes here. I took the time to do everything I could to make sure we didn't get people accidentally voting for one they didn't really want to choose. This is a fun contest and it's certainly not life or death. Take time to decide which one you want to give your vote to, but you're not deciding on who's going to be running your country for the next four years.

I subtracted the 4 fraudulent votes from #9, At the track. It now has 1 vote.

 

Lol you serious? How can you tell? Hmmm, maybe we should restrict the voting to people with more than say...100 posts? Sort of like reaching the age of 18 to vote in the US, except NBR style!

 

People with less then 100 posts can vote serious as well.....

 

I believe the only rules for voting are: The user has to be registered before the 18th, has to have 1 post, and the ip's can not be the same. The 4 votes for #9 broke all of these rules. 0 posts, registered after the 18th, same ip address....

 

No, that wouldn't be needed... As Jason said, these all came from the same IP address and most people don't get the bright idea to register multiple names until after the contests start... so we've got it under control.

 

I really hate to be a sticklers for the rules here, but the vote by WadingRocks is invalid as their registration for the forum wasn't set up until 01/21. Welcome to the forum WadingRocks, I hope you'll participate in the future contests.

I think all of these entries are creative and it's great to see -- I wanted to vote for about three of them but went with #5. I love the cake though.

 

I went with #11 because its politically incorrect!

 

Yeah, I kind of didn't understand what that was all about and as I was thinking of a name for it, I thought how, potentially anyway, that could be wrong for us to represent.... Then I realized the female canvas could be seen in a similiar light... and that's just art. I'm just upset that our logo was photoshoped and not carefully hand painted. Now, that cake was done by one of those cake printers, but at least I can eat that.

 

Only four more days to vote.....

 

I thought it was freaking hillarious. Although It was a tough one between that and the Cake. I personally prefer humor based advertisements.

I want to apoligize to anyone I may have offended by my comment above. I honestly didn't think anything of it, and your mind already has to be in the gutter to think it's dirty, but I assure you my cake vs body paint comment was honestly just about my sweet tooth and nothing more.... Again, I'm sorry to those sicko's that took it the wrong way and contacted me about it .

 

#5, filling the gap, was very cool.

For those that haven't noticed, the race here is really for 2nd and 3rd place.... I'm not going to tell anyone where to put their votes, but there are 4-5 entries that are pretty tight for the remaining 2 spots.

Alright, well the voting is over and it looks like we have a tie for second place, so the second and third place prizes will be combined and then split - $175 each. It's be great if the winners that are forum members could write something up on what they spent their prizes on, but that's not required. Yes, using Photoshop CS and a Wacom tablet I first drew out the figure, then using various brushes I created the pencil sketch texture that surrounds it. For final touch ups I placed over it a paper texture to make it look less artificial and placed in a pencil that I photographed.


On a side note, I would like to thank everyone who participated in this contest, Justin and PROPortable.com for everything, and especially all the people who voted.

Well besides Jumper... can we put handles to any of the other entries? This was a study in community building.... I'm sure others would like to know as well.

 

dunno, maybe, I made #6 - Body Paint. I did some thinking, I actually had "body painting" in mind, but it would be hard to find the model, the painter, blah blah. Well, I thought the hardest part about making the cake was going to be convincing my wife who enjoys decorating cakes to make me one (I owe her a nice dinner or something--I'm sure she will tell me); but, the hardest part was helping Albertson's with their computer and food grade printer. The local baker couldn't figure out the right side to print on. He destroyed three sheets of sugar paper. Anyway, it was fun decorating the cake and my baby son had a great time messing in all up after the pictures were taken. I enjoyed competing with the other talented individuals. I especially want to thank ProPortable and Justin in particular for hosting the contest. Thanks for the generous prize.
