Does anyone know the part number for the 15.6" IPS Panel found in the Zenbook U500?

Even better, is if some adventurous user has disassembled their laptop -- I'd love to see how the panel ribbon connector and power connector look.

I'm toying with the idea of modifying my S56 into a budget Zenbook, so long as the panels use the same connectors, and the panel isn't too expensive (less than $150)

I think a quicker way to obtain the part number would be to contact Asus (you could always play it off as though you're interested in a quote for a parts service/replacement if they question it). Not sure about the connection interface, though. :( I'll see if there's a unit I can open up (or already opened) and get back to you if I can get an image for you.

Thanks! That's a good idea. I'll give it a shot.

$450 (i3 S56, refurbed) + hopefully ~$140 (IPS 1920x1080 upgrade) + $110 (128GB integrated SSD + RAM upgrade) = $700 == high quality ultrabook on the cheap. Even less if I recoup some of the costs by selling off the crappy OEM 1366x768 WXGA panel, 4GB DDR3 stick, and 24GB mSATA SSD. ($625 if I get lucky, after all is said and done?).
