Ok, OpenSuse, gentoo, sourcemage, ubuntu and fedora are on their way to the W3V's hardrive to see which one will work the best. But, I am starting with the Suse disks. I will start a new thread once I have it up and running.

SuSE and Gentoo are great distros.. Gentoo is a little complicated to install though.
If you want simplicity, Knoppix is a good one to start out with...

Knoppix and Kanotix both do not need to be installed on the HDD, and can be used to test some generic hardware support under Linux. I think Kanotix is supposed to have excellent wireless detection - of course, Intel wireless under Linux is actually a lot better than it used to be, since the drivers were finally put directly into the kernel.

knoppix & fedora work great. i've personally tested them on my z70va, and there's actually native support for the x600, while the x700 requires the ati drivers to be installed.

Ok I am stuck with the OpenSuse Alpha 3 install right after the 1st disk gets done installing and directs me to reboot. I do that and as the machine is booting up after I select suse from grub screen I get a weird message that my /dev/hda5 swap, and /dev/hda6 root are not found. Anybody have any experience with a problem like this. I have been cruising the suse help forums but to no avail yet.
