god, I just had my tooth filling break and I'm in crazy pain. I'm about to leave for the dentist but I'll be checking back to see what you guys can do about shipping and warranty for me. It looks like I'll go through you guys, but is there any way you can put one aside for me? Thanks, Jeff

Memory swap is the thing Asus cares the least, you won't get local warranty even you buy it locally, all warranty goes to Asus service center, Asus will cover both way shipping, if you order soon, I still have it left, we ship with Canadapost expedited service, it will take 3 days to be there(Edmonton).

hows the heat and noise after using and for a while now, and how was it during bench tests.
-
Hmm 5,1-5,3lbs. That would be good!
I read a confusing 2,5 kilo (5.5lbs) somewhere.
Can you tell me something about the battery life (of should the scores you put on earlier tell me ..nope no wizzkid...) -
The weight 2,4kg, 2,39 to be precise.
-
I'm using BatteryMon to test out the battery life, it looks to be a tad over 3 hours on this 6 cell battery, while on the net, brightness at 1/3, WiFi off(but plugged through rj45).

Milestonepc:
I noticed on your front page advertisement for the A8Jm saying that it includes bluetooth. Just wanted to point that out.

A few more pics for the people

thanks for the pics, I know asked before but any update on heat and noise and your take on it. Can`t wait to get mine
-
And I want update about GF7600 performance!!

I got deep freeze from this net cafe I hung out with..it went down and me and some friends got a bunch of free software.
we all install it. but just only on the C Drive. the D drive is the larger drive and where we store all the non programs i.e MPEGs, AVIs, Jpgs, Mp3s, etc.. so they don't get wiped out when you reboot. You may have noticed deep freeze before as it is often used by libraries, schools and net cafes. Once you freeze, its not like you can never change it. you simply unfreeze then refreeze with your changes. -
-
the laptop is very, very sturdy. angling the LCD will simply change the apparenty brightness of the screen. Yes, that means i have it
-
Has the configuration changed? Milestone's banner says it has the T2300, but the product details page shows a T2400.
-
That is correct. T2400 in the notebook
-
how about possible the most important item
verified resolution? 1440X900 or 1280 x 800 (or would it be 768) -
This looks like it could be the notebook to get for Linux, although the V6VA is so tempting especially with the $200 rebate.
-
Hey, I'm trying to buy the A8Jm from milestonepc and it won't let me create an account. There is an option to sign in, but no option to sign up. Is there anything I can do about this? I can't buy the laptop with the visitors cart so I'll definately need to figure this out asap before stock runs out.
-
best way = call them up

Just got home with laptop
The screen is super glossy and the heat doesnt seem to be an issue yet. Started the downloads for 3dmark. The build quality is superb with NO flex on the screen and the hinges feel firm (which is good) nothing feels flimsy yet. With 33% battery and using the Asus's power manager software on 'Battery Saving' it shows 1:07hrs. So i guess it will be about 3hrs atleast
I am going to put it on charge and start windows update and the rest of the downloads.
BTW the linksys wrt54g is a good routerfinally using it

EDIT: Oh and if someone could tell me how to attach pictures that would be wonderful
ThanksAttached Files:

Go into the advanced reply window and click the paper clip in the first row of buttons.
Let's see those pictures!
Can somebody do an actual battery test? Get back to us in a few days (batteries usually don't hold their maximum capacity until a few charge cycles have passed I believe...) that would be great. -

seems to have the same battery life as the W3J? surprising since the A8 is using a 6 cell and the W3 is on an 8. does anyone know if the A8 has an extended battery option? -
Some more pictures comparing the A8J to the closest thing i could find a harry potter book. I am noticing that the right side of the mouse pad, the scroll bit gets a little warm but nothing uncomfortable.
And the screen is really bright. All the pictures are with max brightness and i still havent taken off the protective screen it comes with. The keyboard is top notch with no flex.
Having used a number of laptops I can now tell what people meant by Asus' Legendary build qualityAttached Files:

how is the air from the right side exhaust? not too bothersome?
-
Ill run 3dmark and check as of rt now its fine. The warmest bit of the laptop is under the scroll bit of the mouse pad. I have feeling this part will get really hot
-
That's another thing about the A8jm, the wristrest do NOT get warm whatsoever, while running benchmarks, the fan was on, not very loud, but the air blown out was significantly warm - but the wristrest area was very cool. It surprised me, and definately was a pleasant one
-
-
I wish....
Is it YOUR next notebook?
Unless ASUS has a notebook trade in program, I'm keeping my V6va -
-
palm rest is whatever your palms have warmed it up to. like cori said, the air is a bit warm. Like, desert-in-your-face warm
-
as of right now, there is no difference between 667MHz and 533Mhz, when talking about notebook memory.
The faster 667 memory (PC2-5300) has a CAS latency of 5, and the 533 (PC-4200) has CAS latency of 4.
667,000,000/5 = 133,400,000
533,000,000/4 = 133,250,000
It's virtually the same exact speed. What you should keep an eye out for, however, is the 667 with CAS 4 (PC2 - 5400). Newegg is selling some 667 memory labeled as CAS 4 under the brand G.Skill, but someone bought it and benchmarks say its CAS 5 - so steer clear of that one. -
Where could a guy buy this laptop off-the-shelf, in the Edmonton area?
-
Yes the palm rest areas are definitely not warm, but if someone could verify that the mouse scrolling area of the pad does get warm. Keyboard is perfectly cool as well
-
Check the FAQ for retailers, there should be one or two in the Edmonton area.
-
how come...the benchmark tested was winows XP, isn't it Winsows Home..?
-
MilestonePC.com Company Representative
It should be called Winows XP Home / Windows XP Professional for full names
BTW, battery update: 1 hour 40 minutes passed, I have 1 hour 2 inutes minutes(35%) left. (note: I use a external optical mouse) -
3831 in 3dmark05. Also i noticed that when the fan started blowing there was no part of the laptop that was warm
on the top that is. The warmness under the scroll part of the mousepad was instantly cool as was everything else. The fan was not noisy at all and gpu went upto 62 degrees. How can i check cpu temp?
Is the asus power gear software any good? or should i use something else? I ran the tests with it in super performance mode and high performance and got the same results -

Agree with you, talking about hot/warm, I think the A8Jm is cooler than W3J on both palmrest and keyboard area, the same with the air from the side vent, air from W3J is hoter and more frequent than A8Jm, I am not saying W3J is very hot, just A8Jm is cooler.
-
will all A8Jms in Canada have no Bluetooth?
and are there different versions of the A8Jm here?
because the specs on different asus reseller sites have different specs...
like one reseller has the A8Jm having a 80Gig HD.. -

This is about the battery: after 2 hours 40 munites of internet browsing and typing, middle brightness, with external optical mouse, I got battery low warning, 11 minutes (7%) left.
I am not sure how much the external optical mouse affects here, maybe 15-20 minutes? -
so battery life is around 3 hours. =)
-
For curiosity purposes, Danny how many A8Jm's did you sell today? I heard at least 2-3 people on this forum got theirs from you guys.
-
-
I was the 2nd and also got the money right
and i believe first person to get the ram upgrade as well
I also wanted to ask, is there any harm in having the power adapter/brick always plugged in to an outlet? I notice it gets warm and I am not sure if i should un plug it to let it cool down. -
Heh, I suppose you are 'Steven'?
Picking up A8Jm from Milestonepc Today (if they get them today)
