I have just bought a new W7S laptop and I have found that there are too many useless softwares. They make my computer run slowly and I want to reinstall window and some softwares I need. Can someone teach me how to do? Step by step please, coz this is my first laptop.
Second, I want to add a 2GB ram in my W7S. Do I need to add it first and then do the reinstall window?
    Thanks

Well, you need to find a clean windows disk and use your key since the one that ships with the laptop contains all the useless softwares

Changing the ram does not requiere any windows reinstallation but is likely to void your warranty

I'm sure you can search the forums for a popular post from someone such as Chaz or another moderator on the subject.

If you have the box that came with the the disk there is a manual which has instructions on how to do a clean install.

    Just a note:

As the system boots you can hit F9 and it should enter the hidden partition from where you can "recover" your OS. I believe asus' definition of recovering is to reinstall the OS plus all the bloatware. So essentially it restores it to factory state.

In the case of the original poster...you dont wanna do this. Your best bet is to use someone elses vista disc and just use your own activation code which is on a sticker on the bottom of your laptop.

    Also...to confirm.
JCMS wrote that adding RAM will void the warranty. That is a half truth. If you install the RAM and **** up during installation...(like break the slots) then your warranty is void. If you install it properly then your warranty is not void and asus will not complain if you send it in for repair and they find an additional stick. That being said i would recommend that you test your new stick using "RAM probe" when you install to make sure you are installing a working stick. Also...in the event you do need to send your system in...your safest bet is to remove the ram and hang on to it.

do u mean the window in ur house?

    Just kidding..

I don't think those Vista Recovery works if you want completly clean system.

You need the Windows Vista Business disc to install in your computer.

To use the recoverty disc, you might have to boot the CD from BIOs when the computer first turn on.

Press F2 or F10 F9,... depends on the system to access to the boot menu and choose to CD-Rom. boot your CD from there and start the reinstallation process.

Buying would be a waste - easiest thing is to find a friend with a copy of vista, borrow their copy for the reinstall, but use YOUR install key
