Hey guys I need some help.
My U41JF keeps switching itself off all the time. By that I mean that whilst I am using it, it will shut down all running programs and try to shut down Windows properly. Sometimes it will shut down properly like that but most of the time it will think its taking too long and just shut off as if all power sources were removed.
It started happening about 3 months ago, then stopped happening and restarted about 2 weeks ago. I asked ASUS UK for help and they keep suggesting that I perform BIOS update or system recovery but neither solution has worked.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how it can be fixed?
    Thanks in advance

I've noticed it happens most when it is on my lap, on the move in hands or on an uneven surface. Could it be a hardware problem? I asked ASUS that before but got no answer about that.

If it's randomly attempting to shut down correctly (as opposed to just powering off instantly with no warning), it's getting a signal from somewhere.

Maybe the power button is shorting? Have you tried changing the power button action to do nothing in your power management control panel? Just one idea.

It could also be a bad battery, if it only happens on battery and the battery is giving a critical reading. You could try setting your critical battery action to 'do nothing'.

There are other possible causes too like some sort of motherboard defect.

Have you tried it on another OS like a Linux livecd or liveusb (ubuntu for example) to see if it does the same thing? That's often a good thing if you need to rule out a software issue.

    Hi thanks for the reply.
I will try some of your ideas now. It isn't a bad battery because I can still get full battery life from it when I do manage to get it to stay on but that power management thing is an interesting idea.

I don't know what it is now. I left it off for a week and now rather than trying to shut down properly as I stated before, it is just randomly turning off as if power was completely cut don it. I'm gonna try to send it to ASUS to let them sort it out but gotta finish backing up ky files first.
    Thanks guys for the help.

Complete power cut-off? i would send it to the service centre. Seems more likely to be hardware.

With random shutdowns like that I would also have to say it is likely a hardware issue. I would set it up for service as I am assuming you are still under warranty since that machine isn't too old.

If you take the battery out, and only use AC, does the same thing happen?
