I have one of the original G1S running Vista. I have a generic windows vista x64 upgrade disk.

I am about to go to the Asus website and download all the x64 drivers for the G1S.

Can someone who has upgraded their G1S to Vista x64 give me some advice/instruction? I don't want to start this process and get irreversibly "stuck" somewhere along the way.

I've read about ASUS BIOS locks and other such things and so I am figuring this will be more challenging then it appears.

    Thanks!

Thank you! And will the Vista x64 upgrade disk prompt me on when I need to install the Asus x64 drivers? Or do I finish the Vista x64 install and then install the drivers manually after a reboot?

Finish the Vista x64 installation first, and then install the drivers manually after a reboot.

    Good luck!! :D :D :D

    Thanks WillyAu,

I did my upgrade. Or I should rather say fresh install, because the x64 upgrade wouldn't allow me to upgrade except from within Windows, and when I was in inside Windows, it complained I should boot from the DVD and not autorun it. Booting from the DVD however only gives the option of doing a completely new install. :(

So freshly installed Vista Home Premium x64. Went into system and confirmed it was a 64-bit OS. All seems good. I go to install the drivers. Install the 64-bit video driver. All good.

But now I try to install the Wireless internet. The directions on the ASUS site are that in order to install Wireless driver, first I have to install the "Wireless Console utility". When I go to run W_Console, it complains that I am missing the ATK 0100 kernel driver. So, I go to install the ATK 0100 kernel driver, and I get this message: "Install Failed! ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY"

Then I decide, following your advice, that grabbing the G1S Vista x64 ATK driver might not have been the right thing. So I grab the G1Sn Vista x64 ATK driver, which has a later date by about 3 days. Except this G1Sn package doesn't have an install setup package. It's not clear how I can install it. What should I do?

And is there any way to get around the message from the G1S ATK driver of "Install Failed ! ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY". I'm at a loss why I even get this message since I'm trying to install a 64-bit ATK driver on a 64-bit OS, so everything should be fine, right?

At the point of failure, I've only installed the fresh Vista x64, a LAN driver, and a Video driver. No other software or drivers.

From the ASUS download site, the ATK driver for Vista x64 for the G1S is "ATKDrv_Vista64_070914.zip" dated September 14, 2007 which contains:
2KSETUP64.exe (12/18/06) (which fails to run with the "Install Failed ! ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY")
    2KSETUP.INI (2/21/01)
    atk0100.cat (10/31/06)
    ATK0100.INF (10/28/06)
    ATK64AMD.sys (10/27/06)

On the otherhand, the ATK driver for Vista x64 for the G1Sn is "ATKDrv_Vista64.zip" dated September 17, 2007 which contains only:
    atk0100.cat (10/31/06)
    ATK0100.INF (10/28/06)
    ATK64AMD.sys (10/27/06)
... and no 2KSETUP64.exe file at all.

Which one of these should I install, and how?

By the way, a different question that relates to your first advice to me about the G1Sn. I assume that where the G1S and the G1Sn have drivers that are supposed to be the same but the G1Sn has a different date, I should be taking the G1Sn driver, right?

For example, When I ask to download the Vista x64 Wireless Console utility for the G1S, it offers me:
"W_Console_Vista32bit_070125.zip" (only version available for Vista x64 on G1S)

But when I ask to download the Vista x64 Wireless Console utility for the G1Sn, it offers me the later:
    "Wireless_Console_VT_071214.zip" (11 months more recent)

OK. Further, I tried to manually install the ATK0100 driver, and completely failed.

First I tried to install using Device Manager. Unfortunately there is no ATK0100 device listed on my system. In fact, below is the entire list of my devices identified in Device Manager. There is nothing else:
Second, I tried to "Add Hardware". There of course was no ATK0100 device given as an option. I tried to tell it that I "have disk" and pointed the Add Hardware wizard to the "ATK0100.INF" file for both the G1S and then the G1Sn. The Wizard grayed out the "Model" field and the "install" button. There was no way in the Add Hardware wizard to install this driver.

Third, I went into the ATK0100.INF file to see if I could manually install the driver by hand. It reads:
But it is not obvious at all how I go to install the driver by hand or what I need to put into the registry.

Use the ATK drivers for the G1S and not the G1Sn.

To install the ATK0100, make sure you right click the setup file and choose "Run As Administrator..."
I was cracking my head trying to figure out the problem, and it was that simple.
