I have a U43JC- X1. bamboo series. windows 7 home premium. before everything went down my mcaffee antivirus said it deleted a trojan and my laptop just shut down. when i went to start it again it took me to startup repair which said it couldn't automatically fix it. i didn't make a system restore point. my only option, which i want and need to do is to put my laptop back to factory settings, like the day I first got it. I have been trying to reset my laptop by pressing the f9 during startup but it takes me to the windows boot manager. please help me out. i need this laptop. thank you!!

also my laptop didn't come with any restore cds or anything of the sort.

Try pressing F2 or F10 it differs on some laptop models. You should be able to do a new installation. I highly doubt that the "ghost" drive would be affected, so you should be able to do it with no problems at all. Give us an update if it worked.

I already tried that and it didn't work. I ordered recovery diskc from the asus estore, and it came yesterday. I put in disk one and I got the options to partition the laptop. I chose the second one to partition the whole drive. everything was well then it said to put in the second disk, after about 15-20 minutes of a command prompt window with "F:\>start /w \I386\AsCopy.exe /copy64" it says disk error press ctrl+alt+delete to restart the computer. any ideas of fixing this? Like i said before could a virus do this? THanks
