Please recommend an external monitor that is 19"-22" in size for W3J. Thanks.

I would recommend a dell 19 ultrasharp
-
I don't know any that's specifically good for the w3j, but viewsonic has a fairly good quality & price on their 20" widescreen.

Dell also has a 20" widescreen for about the same price. -
What's your budget?
Widescreen or normal?
The Dell 2007WFP is a very nice 20" widescreen monitor, with plenty of connection options.
If that's a little too expensive, I'd suggest the Viewsonic VX2025wm, another 20" widescreen.
Both run WSXGA+ resolution (1680x1050) and are good all rounders.
EDIT: Woo, spooky. Jihoon recommended the exact same monitors...
-
thanks. kindly state the prices of the LCDs as I would like to buy the best among the cheapests.
and what is the difference in terms of performance between DVI out and VGA out as the W3J only have the latter. does all lcds support vga out? -
most 19 and 20 support vga but as you get bigger you need a dvi
-
i actually do not have a budget to start with and i just want to buy a good lcd without spending too much and has a good quality. i also prefer widescreens.
how is the quality of the Viewsonic? i also prefer good viewing angles. -
are there any performance difference between DVI and VGA?
-
Let's see, the Dell is going for around $370 USD at the moment, and the Viewsonic can be had for around $300 USD. The extra money you spend on the dell gets you more input options (component, HDMI) and a better stand.
DVI will usually give you better results than VGA, because a VGA connection to a LCD monitor means taking your image (which is digital), converting it to analogue and sending it to the monitor, which converts it back to digital. DVI on the other hand keeps the image digital at every stage. To be honest, you'll be hard pressed to notice a difference on all but the largest LCD monitors. And yes, both monitors I mentioned have VGA in.
EDIT: There's a nice review of the VX2025wm over at Tom's Hardware.

not really in my opinion i only use dvi when powering my 30" but use vga when using my 20"
-
am i right to say that there are hardly NO difference between the DVI and VGA in the 20" lcd class?
the VX2025wm is a glossy screen right, not a matte? i'll put it on my candidates. -
yeah.
the viewsonic 20" actually has the highest popularity at cnet.com
http://reviews.cnet.com/ViewSonic_VX2025wm/4505-3174_7-31747549.html
and a extremely high user rating too.
Dell's 24 and 19 inch monitors are both editor's choice, but I can only assume that the 19" will be pretty much identical in quality.

reading the reviews, it seems to have a banding issue .... whatever that is -
i've actually just read your thread "using w3j as a desktop computer?" and that is what im actually trying to do now and that is why im looking for the best lcd for its value.
man, we've posted a relatively same topic on the same day.. so what lcd are you going to use?
why do you want to use your laptop as a desktop alternative? i want mine because i want to get rid of the vent on the right. i just find it terrible for me especially when gaming. i am also planning to buy a mouse and a keyboard for this purpose. its a bit weird to spend extra money on this.
high viewing angles, and of course a larger screen when im at home are just secondary because i usually bring this notebook outside. -
hmm.. I"m actually considering on purchasing the w3j
at first, I ruled out all 13.3, 14.1 notebooks because they didn't provide a high enough resolution screen. And after using a wxga for a while, I felt really uncomfortable with it because everything took up so much space, and it was hard to multitask. (I dunno.. it just started getting on my nerves after a while.. I'm used to a higher resolution screen)
Now, I'm opening up the possibility of a smaller notebook, and a larger external display back at the dorm for regular use.
I would get a regular desktop, but that would mean I can't take my computer out AT ALL. sooo yeah. -
I did a comparison between DVI and VGA on my Dell 2005FPW, with my desktop PC which has a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card. The only way I could tell the difference between DVI and VGA was looking at gradients. The gradients transitioned smoother across the screen on DVI than VGA. However this was a really small difference. In a blind test between DVI and VGA in regular PC use, I was 50/50, so I could not tell the difference. In a blind test looking at gradients, I was correct in DVI or VGA 60% of the time. However the results are going to be different depending on your monitor and graphics card, and if you go VGA invest in a good cable it makes a difference. I had ghosting with a poor cable.

I have been told that you loose roughly 15% of the quality when using analog. Because regardless if your computer has a VGA or DVI port, it's still converting from digital to analog, then back to digital for the LCD.
Please recommend an external monitor for W3J
